Stanford University, recognized as one of the most prestigious and innovative academic and research institutions in the world, has an opening for a full-time Title IX Coordinator and Director of the Sexual Harassment/Assault, Response and Education (SHARE) Office to oversee the University's response and prevention education efforts to Title IX Prohibited Conduct as well as policy concerns relating to sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, domestic and dating violence, and retaliation concerns relating to such reports.

Additionally, to support Stanford's commitment to the prevention of harassment and/or discrimination based on race, color, national origin, shared ancestry, or other protected categories, this position will also oversee the University's response and prevention education efforts to Title VI prohibited conduct as well as other protected categories.

Job Purpose

This is a Senior Staff role within the office of Institutional Equity, Access, and Community reporting directly to the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity, Access, and Community.

The Title IX and Title VI Coordinator has ultimate responsibility for compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act, the Clery Act's provision relating to sexual violence prevention and response, and California laws relating to sexual assault, as well as Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. As the Title IX Coordinator and Director of the SHARE Office, the successful candidate will have primary responsibility for managing the day-to-day responsibilities associated with the University's Title IX compliance obligations and ensuring the effectiveness and consistency of sexual harassment and sexual violence investigations across campus including overseeing the work of Deputy Title IX Coordinators, the SHARE Response Team, and the SHARE Education Team which is responsible for sexual harassment prevention education and compliance for students, staff, and faculty. This role will oversee SHARE staff, will have significant budget oversight and authority, and will collaborate with other campus offices and partners including University Human Resources - Employee and Labor Relations, the Office of Community Standards (OCS), Residential Education, the Graduate Life Office, the Department of Public Safety and the Confidential Support Team (CST).

The SHARE Office collaborates with Human Resources professionals, Residence Deans and Graduate Life Office Deans, and others within Student Affairs to implement and maintain supportive measures and Title IX remedies. The Title IX Coordinator will oversee education and prevention work undertaken by colleagues in the SHARE Office. The Title IX Coordinator will be responsible for managing matters under the Title IX Procedure as well coordinating related companion procedures for university-based sexual misconduct with the applicable university offices. As a neutral party, the Title IX Coordinator will oversee investigations conducted by the SHARE Response Team and will ensure that alleged sexual harassment is promptly and appropriately investigated. The Title IX Coordinator may also engage directly in investigations, including notifying and interviewing complainants, respondents, and witnesses; obtaining and reviewing relevant documents; and issuing factual findings and recommendations, as necessary. The successful candidate will bring a trauma-informed philosophy and approach to responding to concerns of sexual harassment and assault, and will also need to be adept at resolving matters outside of a hearing context, and knowledge of restorative justice and alternate dispute resolution practices is strongly preferred.

As the Title VI Coordinator the role will collaborate with School Deans and their staff, Human Resources professionals, Residence Deans and Graduate Life Office Deans, and others within Student Affairs to implement and maintain supportive measures and Title VI remedies. The Title VI Coordinator will oversee education and prevention work undertaken by colleagues in the Title VI Office. The Title VI Coordinator will be responsible for managing matters as well overseeing investigations conducted alleging Title VI issues are promptly and appropriately investigated. The Title VI Coordinator may also engage directly in investigations, including notifying and interviewing complainants, respondents, and witnesses; obtaining and reviewing relevant documents; and issuing factual findings and recommendations, as necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Development, implementation, and management of the University Title IX and Title VI Procedure and Processes: implementation and management of companion procedures for non-Title IX matters involving sexual harassment or sexual assault allegations (except for staff-staff Title VII sexual harassment matters).Determine whether a matter will proceed through the Title IX Procedure or another procedure.With the client services manager, develop and implement case management plan for each reported sexual harassment or sexual assault incident being managed through the SHARE Office, including the provision of supportive measures for the parties involved with a case.Oversee investigation plans for each Title IX sexual harassment or sexual assault complaint; train staff members to conduct Title IX investigations.Oversee investigation plans for each Title VI report or complaint; train staff members to conduct Title VI investigations.Ensure staff and third parties involved in Title IX and Title VI matters comply with appropriate training requirements. Recruit, train, supervise, and provide leadership to staff who serve as Deputy Title IX and Title VI Coordinators, investigators, case managers, data managers, as appropriate and needed.Review comprehensive reports of investigation with findings of fact and recommendation(s).Maintain a case management database to organize, manage and track Title IX and sexual harassment incidents.Maintain a case management database to organize, manage and track Title VI incidents.Monitor and manage Title IX and Title VI incidents to ensure an efficient and effective response to complaints.Create, modify, and oversee protocols relating to sexual harassment, sexual assault and Title VI claims.Investigate and provide investigation oversight of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and Title VI claims in partnership with Human Resources, Employee and Labor Relations within University Human Resources and/or the Diversity and Access Office.Serve as the primary compliance officer for sexual harassment and violence prevention.Create, modify, and oversee programs as required by law, regulation, or agreement relating to sexual harassment and violence prevention.Provide ongoing updates to the disciplinary procedure for sexual violence and Title VI as necessary.Continuously identify and integrate best practices in the Title IX and Title VI investigation arena into knowledge base and practice.Engage in continuous improvements in the investigatory process.Review and ensure University policies, procedures, protocols and practices are in compliance with Title IX regulations, as well as related federal and state laws.Develop and disseminate educational materials and in-service training tailored to faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars and students.Collaborate with other campus offices, as needed, to coordinate and execute in a timely manner the University's response and investigation of complaints pursuant to Title IX and Title VI.Prepare annual statistical report on the number, nature and disposition of complaints. Identify patterns and make recommendations relating to sexual harassment and violence.Stay abreast of regulations and statutes relating to civil rights laws and gender-based violence including, but not limited to, Title IX, VAWA and Title VI.Act as university representative when attending conferences and communicating with federal government compliance or investigation officers.Refer resources to faculty, staff, and students who could benefit from supplementary support during an investigation.Advise University leadership and Department of Athletics on Title IX and gender-equity compliance related issues.Serve as university expert on Title IX requirements and compliance and provide consultation to senior officers as necessary.
