About the Position
The Defense Engineering Delivery Team Process Improvement leader will identify, champion and lead continuous improvement projects targeted at improving quality and delivery of Defense engine products. The candidate for this role will be a critical change agent with influence on business critical Defense Engines initiatives.

The ideal candidate will utilize sound problem solving to identify the most impactful areas for sustainable improvement and will serve as the team lead and/or process owner for continuous improvement events (Kaizen, JDI, VSA). Additionally the candidate will mentor and coach the Defense Engineering Delivery Team with becoming practitioners of GE Lean Operating Model Flight Deck.

There is high level of autonomy within the role. High levels of operational judgment are required to achieve outcomes required.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and execute process improvement projects and initiatives, including methods, tools, roadmap systems, and deployment. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to execute the charter of leaning out, contemporizing, and improving processes related to delivery execution. The role will work horizontally with product line, site leaders, manufacturing, quality, digital technology, and engineering teams. Communicate timely, clearly, and effectively across key stakeholders including senior leadership on recommendations and solutions. Partner across Defense Engines products to address systemic producibility issues.

  • Partner on enterprise wide digital transformations to enable product delivery and support factory transformations (MBE/MBM/ Model Line Transformation), emerging technologies

    Provide thought leadership to find creative solutions within complex engineering and manufacturing processes to improve producibility, FTY, and conformity.

  • Interprets internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products and processes. Utilizes understanding of industry trends to inform decision making process.

  • Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.

  • Lead cross-functional teams and communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Engineering, Supply Chain or Quality roles.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Shop operations / manufacturing experience
  • Strong project management skills with ability to plan, market, execute, and deliver on project commitments.
  • Previous experience with Lean and associated tools
  • Demonstrated strong cross-functional leadership and influencing without authority skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership of structured problem solving (TOPS8D, PSR, A3)
  • Change oriented – actively generates process improvements; champions and drives change initiatives; confronts obstacles
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
