Support Work Center design (defining the location that a series of work activities are performed and all the equipment, tooling, fixtures and personnel required) for Columbia construction. The Industrial Engineer will partner with Operations, Ship's Management and Planning to create standard, repeatable plans for each Work Center. Responsibilities include:
Partner with Design Build, Operations and Ship's Management to optimize the build plan and effectively determine what essentials need to be incorporated into the Work Centers to identify improvements in the construction flow, layout, facilities, and Trade specific levels
Facilitate creation of Work Center playbooks by coordinating with applicable Trades and Operations Leadership
Partner with Detail Planning and Advance Planning for constant refinement of work scopes at the key event, activity and work order levels
Socialize with multiple organizations throughout Work Center design and development
Foster a culture of continuous improvement at Electric Boat
2. Support Work Center execution for Columbia construction. The Industrial Engineer will partner with Operations, Ship's Management and Planning to ensure successful completion of work within the Work Center.Responsibilities include:
Partner with Design Build, Operations and Ship's Management during execution of the Work Center to identify progress via applicable metrics, capability v. capacity analysis, delay code tracking and addressing, etc., with the intention of successful on-time and on-cost completion of the Work Center.
Facilitate implementation of Work Center playbooks by coordinating with applicable Trades and Operations Leadership
Play an active role in creating standard repeatable and predictable processes within the Work Center
Partner with Detail Planning and Advance Planning for constant refinement of work scopes at the key event, activity and work order levels
Socialize with multiple organizations throughout Work Center execution and development, including participation in future Work Center design
Foster a culture of continuous improvement at Electric Boat


3. Responsible for the application of Lean Manufacturing and / or Lean Six Sigma principles to investigate, analyze and facilitate process change directly resulting in reduced costs and lead times within the manufacturing and outfitting areas in the Groton Shipyard.Responsibilities include:
Assist organizations to identify, plan, and implement high impact Process Improvements and Lean Six Sigma Projects and ensure they align with company objectives
Lead teams on projects to improve safety and quality, reducing cost, and improving schedule performance
Foster a culture of continuous improvement in the organization
Work with leadership and employees on applying Lean and Six Sigma approaches to help achieve process excellence
Provide mentorship to employees when leading change
Identify and eliminate the barriers that prevent successful attainment of company's improvement goals
Selected candidate will demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision and in a team environment. Candidate must be capable of combining assertive initiative with professional discipline to accomplish challenging tasks, and work as Change Agents to remove barriers that hinder change.The selected applicants will receive training and certification in Lean and Six Sigma in support of improving Electric Boat's business processes.This position is located in Groton, CT. Selected candidates will be expected to work on-site.QualificationsRequired:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Exposure or experience working in a manufacturing, production environment or construction site
Directly worked with / on production floor
Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as welding & machining
Knowledge or experience performing mechanical, fluid, electrical testing
Demonstrated experience facilitating cross functional teams
Advanced proficiency with MS Office, specifically Excel
Excellent project management skills with a working knowledge of the principles of analytical problem solving techniques
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
Internal candidate must be from organizations outside of operations (Casciano/Gabriel)

Preferred:
BS in Industrial Engineering
Lean Manufacturing and / or Lean Six Sigma Black / Green Belt Training
Experience with Lean, Kaizen, or Toyota Production Systems
Experience with project budgeting, cost estimating and scheduling
Proven track record of successful projects and achievements
Solid functional expertise and a reputation as a Change Leader
Knowledgeable in developing Continuous Improvement strategies and vision

Ability to make strong connections with frontline Shipbuilders and key stakeholders
Excellent presentation and oral / written communication skills
