SUMMARY
Knowledge, skill, and ability in fillet and groove welding in all positions, welding with ceramic backing, and repairing of welds. Knowledge and understanding of welding symbols, work-shop drawings, and efficient and safe use of welding equipment. Welding performance is subject to the successful passing of NDT requirements as set forth by the Classification Society.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensure all PSI safety procedures, rules, and regulations are followed and met.
Knowledge and efficiency of heavy shipyard construction welding in all positions using approved WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) determined by PSI and Classification Society

Welding process includes:

FCAW – Flux Cored Arc Welding
SMAW – Shielded Metal Arc Welding
SAW – Submerged Arc Welding
Automated Welding Process (use of tractors)
Stainless Steel Fillet Welding
Padding and preparing weld joints per WPS
Carbon Arc Gouging
Note: Not inclusive, shall be determined by vessel specification and classification rules


Knowledge, understanding, and demonstration of interpreting approved WPS set forth at PSI.
Knowledge and ability on how to use all welding-related tools, including basic troubleshooting and maintaining welding equipment to ensure a safe and efficient operation.
Welder must proficiently demonstrate welding ability through performance testing as determined by vessel project and classification.
Welder must be able to work in a team environment.
Welder shall perform internal quality checks of their work performance to ensure quality standards are achieved. Be able to do their quality checks of their welds daily.
Welder must maintain their individual NDT rejection set forth by PSI and Classification Society.
Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

COMPETENCIES

Work Independently according to valid instructions and PSI rules and standards.
Flexible cooperation with team members.
Must be able to work in different environments and areas (e.g. indoors, outdoors, in confined spaces, on scissor lifts and aerial lifts, and in inclement weather).
May be trained and required to weld using automated welding systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires Fillet Weld Fracture (Break) Tests of Vertical, Horizontal, and Overhead test positions
Workmanship assembly – Multi-position 4.5mm (+1.0 mm/-0.5mm) fillet welds
Grind a weld without leaving scarred surface
Requires Bend Test of 400mm long Vertical and Horizontal Groove
High School Diploma or GED

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes, and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is an onsite, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department, and days and hours are determined by department schedules.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

3 to 5 years’ work experience in businesses with heavy industrial or steel fabrication preferred
1 + years’ work experience in heavy industrial with either an Associate Degree in Welding Technology or completion of the welding training program with PSI curriculum
Welding robotics a plus
