Summary

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Take the Scenic Designers’ drawings and use as a plan for build;
  2. Create build drawings of each scenic element;
  3. Help Production Manager to cost out the design and ensure that the production remains in budget;
  4. Purchase and pick up materials for build as necessary (using a company card);
  5. Build all scenic elements of the production;
  6. Manage the logistics of the scene shop as a multi-use space for build, paints, and rehearsals;
  7. Meet regularly with Production Manager and other department heads as the production process occurs;
  8. Load in and out the scenery from multiple spaces including but not limited to the rehearsal space, scene shop, and theatre venue;
  9. Install the scenery in the theatre space;
  10. Strike the scenery and restore the theatre space to standard conditions;
  11. Lead overhire crew during the load in and load out / strike calls;
  12. Participate in staff activities and training;
  13. Maintain facility tools, upgrades, inventories, and more;
  14. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Candidates for this position may possess:

  1. A minimum of 3 years professional experience as a Technical Director;
  2. Thorough knowledge of most areas of theatrical production, carpentry, and theatrical scenery;
  3. Demonstrated ability to develop and work within approved budget;
  4. Thorough knowledge of power tool usage and maintenance;
  5. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in CAD programs and Microsoft Office Suite;
  6. Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gather/analyze information skillfully;
  7. Ability to work well in group problem-solving situations;
  8. Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects and work with people of varying experience levels;
  9. Ability to lift up to 50lbs. alone in some circumstances, but shared lift in others;
  10. Comfortability working on ladders and at heights;
  11. Strong communication, diplomatic and leadership skills;
  12. Willingness to be flexible, collaborative, highly motivated, organized and responsible;
  13. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
