Position Overview:

The United States Institute for Theatre Technology is seeking a dedicated Theatre Technical Director to oversee the technical aspects of theatrical productions. This role is crucial in ensuring that all scenic elements are built and installed to meet the creative vision of the production.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Interpret and execute the Scenic Designers' plans for production builds.
  2. Develop detailed construction drawings for each scenic component.
  3. Collaborate with the Production Manager to estimate costs and maintain budgetary constraints.
  4. Procure materials necessary for production builds.
  5. Construct all scenic elements required for the production.
  6. Oversee the scene shop's operations, ensuring it serves as an efficient multi-use space for building, painting, and rehearsals.
  7. Engage in regular meetings with the Production Manager and other department heads throughout the production timeline.
  8. Facilitate the loading in and out of scenery from various locations.
  9. Install scenic elements within the theatre environment.
  10. Manage the dismantling of scenery and restore the theatre to its original condition.
  11. Lead additional crew members during load-in and strike operations.
  12. Participate in training and staff development activities.
  13. Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory for the facility.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will possess:

  1. A minimum of three years of professional experience in a technical direction role.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of theatrical production processes, carpentry, and scenic design.
  3. Proven ability to develop and adhere to approved budgets.
  4. Expertise in the use and maintenance of power tools.
  5. Strong computer proficiency, particularly in CAD software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze information efficiently.
  7. Capacity to collaborate effectively in team settings.
  8. Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure while working with diverse experience levels.
  9. Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs independently when necessary.
  10. Comfort with working at heights and on ladders.
  11. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  12. A flexible, motivated, organized, and responsible work ethic.
  13. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
