Position Overview:
The United States Institute for Theatre Technology is seeking a skilled individual to oversee the technical aspects of theatrical productions. This role is essential in ensuring that all scenic elements are built and installed to meet the creative vision of the production.
Key Responsibilities:- Interpret and execute the Scenic Designers' plans for production builds.
- Develop detailed construction drawings for each scenic component.
- Collaborate with the Production Manager to budget effectively and maintain financial oversight of the production.
- Source and procure materials necessary for the construction process.
- Construct all scenic elements required for the production.
- Oversee the scene shop, ensuring it operates efficiently for various uses including building, painting, and rehearsals.
- Engage in regular meetings with the Production Manager and department heads throughout the production timeline.
- Facilitate the transportation of scenery between various locations, including rehearsal spaces and the main theatre.
- Install scenic elements within the theatre environment.
- Manage the dismantling of scenery and restore the theatre to its original condition.
- Lead additional crew members during load-in and strike operations.
- Participate in ongoing staff training and development activities.
- Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring proper inventory and upgrades as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Ideal candidates will possess:
- A minimum of three years of professional experience in a technical direction role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of theatrical production processes, carpentry, and scenic design.
- Proven ability to create and adhere to budgets.
- Expertise in the use and maintenance of power tools.
- Strong proficiency in computer applications, including CAD software and Microsoft Office.
- Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze information efficiently.
- Capability to collaborate in group settings to resolve challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure while working with diverse teams.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds independently, with assistance when necessary.
- Comfort with working at heights and on ladders.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- A flexible, motivated, organized, and responsible work ethic.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
