Scope of the Position:

Responsible for accomplishing a daily routine of custodial tasks that provide Academy personnel, students and the public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to work and conduct Academy activities.

Position Specific Responsibilities:
  1. Use electrical cleaning equipment in the cleaning of the assigned facility during hours assigned, e.g., vacuum cleaners, shampoo machines, high speed buffers.
  2. Use appropriate chemicals and cleaners safely and productively according to instructions and established MDE regulations to ensure personal, student, public and staff safety.
  3. Ensure assigned areas are properly opened daily and fully secured upon completion of daily tasks, e.g., locking doors and windows, turning off electrical units.
  4. Perform custodial tasks, e.g., emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, washing windows, dusting furniture and cleaning vents, fans and walls.
  5. Perform sanitizing tasks in various facility areas, e.g., restrooms, kitchen and food areas, cafeterias.
  6. Perform physically demanding tasks requiring use of heavy custodial equipment, e.g., mopping, stripping, waxing and floor buffing.
  7. Respond to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, e.g., spills, broken windows and broken locks.
  8. Move furniture and other equipment in the performance of duties.
  9. Clean equipment and tools after use, maintain cleanliness and order.
  10. Report equipment malfunctions and facility maintenance needs to immediate supervisor.
  11. Perform routine maintenance on facility custodial equipment, such as changing vacuum cleaner belts and bags and changing buffer machine pads.
  12. Perform non-cleaning tasks in general facility maintenance, e.g., changing light bulbs, filling paper and soap dispensers, assisting in setting up for meetings/conferences.
Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Ability to lift 30 pound containers on a regular basis.
  3. Ability to read and follow directions.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  5. Satisfactory criminal background check and unprofessional conduct check as required by School Safety Legislation.
