Overview: The OSP Design and Make Ready Engineer is responsible for fiber optic project make ready work, including pole loading analysis, field data review, and application submission. The role requires expertise in OSP engineering, field design, and joint use.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Field Research & Design

  • Analyze data for cost-effective designs for messenger strands, anchors, and fiber attachments.
  • Conduct field visits and surveys to collect and review data.
  • Document utility pole details including condition, bonding, grounding, and anchor information.
  • Use PLA software for pole loading analysis (preferred).
  • Utilize tools like measuring wheels and height sticks.
  • Interpret maps, conduit records, and layout drawings.
  • Research and document aerial construction requirements and permitting processes.
  • Review pole owner make ready requirements for scope validity.

Administrative Work

  • Attend meetings with management, departments, and vendors to ensure objectives are met.
  • Provide regular updates to PMO on schedule, delays, and mitigation steps.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Construction Management, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 5+ years in Outside Plant Field Engineering, Construction Management, or OSP Field Inspection.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to escalate issues constructively.
  • Ability to work independently and with senior engineers and supervisors.
  • Intermediate knowledge of outside plant engineering, field design, and Telecom products.
  • Working knowledge of permit processes and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS software, and PLA software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of NESC standards for cable attachment, pole condition, and grounding.
