OverviewManager, Youth Leadership at Liliʻuokalani Trust focuses on expanding youth leadership programming at Liliʻuokalani Center (LC). The role ensures that youth leadership initiatives reflect LC’s mission/vision and are rooted in best practices in youth development, contributing to a positive, supportive, and empowering space for Native Hawaiian youth. The Youth Leadership Manager collaborates with teammates across ʻŌlino Pathway programs to expand youth-designed and youth-developed leadership opportunities. Key components include implementing current curriculum, piloting innovative programs, reestablishing the LT Youth Council within LC, continuing mentorship experiences, and supporting youth-led initiatives that strengthen community connection and personal growth. Experience in youth development, program design, mentorship models, and collaborative leadership is required.Liliʻuokalani Center (LC) programs engage youth ages 12 - 24 in adolescent development, providing creative spaces, programming, and resources within a hub for youth co-development. The core framework centers Native Hawaiian youth voice around culture and connection in Hawaiʻi while promoting healing and growth. Programs support youth in exploring cultural identity, community, and place, guiding progression toward adult roles.Essential ResponsibilitiesIn collaboration with LC leadership, expand the Kalo Framework model of youth leadership and mentorship programming rooted in the unique needs, strengths, and aspirations of kamaliʻi at LC.Build upon collaborative, creative, and culturally grounded strategies for engaging youth in leadership programming.Expand the LT Youth Council to inform program design and new initiatives at LC, providing guidance and opportunities aligned to youth needs.Collaborate with teammates across LC program pathways to embed opportunities for youth leadership into LC’s broader programming.Grow local partnerships that expand opportunities for youth and support high-quality programming delivery.Provide impactful mentorship experiences, creating space for youth to build ongoing relationships with adult and peer mentors aligned with their interests.Maintain an understanding of current youth interests and challenges to inform program direction.Model positive group management practices and actions to ensure participant safety by developing healthy relationships and appropriate boundaries with youth.Provide opportunities for LC teammates to engage in professional learning around youth leadership best practices.Stay informed on emerging youth leadership research and integrate evolving best practices into LC’s programs.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in education, social services, or other relevant field (Master’s degree preferred).5+ years of relevant knowledge and experience in youth program design, implementation, and evaluation.Deep understanding of Native Hawaiian culture, values, and history, with the ability to integrate these into wellness programming and holistic development.Job CompetenciesCollaboration: Ability to interact effectively with youth, community partners, and multi-disciplinary teams; knowledge of community resources.Ethical Practice: Model ethical behavior, integrity, and social responsibility; uphold LT values.Communication: Clear written and oral communication; invite feedback.Cultural Competence: Respectful of varied backgrounds; experience with at-risk youth and positive youth development principles.Relationship Management: Experience working with staff at all levels in a collaborative environment.Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work under pressure and stay calm in challenging situations.Travel RequirementsOccasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state may be required, depending on team and organizational needs.Organization CompetenciesAlignment with Queen’s legacy and Hawaiian cultural values; respect for history and culture in work.Continuous Learning and Improvement (Hoʻomau i ka ʻimi Naʻauao).Effective Communication (Hoʻike i na Manaʻo Pono).Critical Thinking and Problem Solving (Noʻonoʻo loi).Innovation (Hoʻo kumu aʻe or ʻImi hakuhia).Building Relationships and Creating Trust (Pilina Hoʻohana a me ka Hana Hilina`i).Teamwork (Alu Like I ka Hana).Capacity Building (Hoʻonui I ka `Ike).Physical RequirementsPerform light physical work, including climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions and is subject to change.
