Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer with a strong background in Java development and extensive experience in big data technologies like Hadoop. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in software development, with a career that began in Java development and has since transitioned into data engineering. This hybrid role requires the ability to work onsite three days a week and remotely for two days.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Engineering & Big Data Management:
Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes.
Implement and manage large-scale data processing systems using Hadoop and related technologies.
Optimize and tune big data environments to ensure performance, scalability, and reliability.
Java Development:
Utilize your strong foundational experience in Java to contribute to the development and maintenance of data integration and processing frameworks.
Leverage Java expertise to design and implement complex algorithms and workflows within the data engineering environment.
Collaboration & Leadership:
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, and business stakeholders, to understand requirements and deliver data-driven solutions.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, sharing best practices and guiding project execution.
Data Architecture & Design:
Develop and maintain robust data models and architectures to support analytical and operational needs.
Work on data integration strategies to unify disparate data sources and ensure data quality and consistency across the organization.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated with the latest advancements in big data technologies and methodologies, and recommend new tools and practices to improve existing processes.
Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance the data engineering landscape.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Experience: 10+ years in software development, with a significant focus on Java development in the initial years of your career.
Data Engineering Expertise: Strong experience in big data technologies, particularly Hadoop (HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, etc.).
Java Proficiency: Deep knowledge of Java programming, with the ability to apply it in data engineering contexts.
ETL & Data Pipeline Experience: Proven ability to design and manage complex ETL processes and data pipelines.
Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud-based data solutions is a plus (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
Collaboration: Strong communication and teamwork skills, with experience working in hybrid work environments.
Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with other programming languages like Python or Scala.
Familiarity with data warehousing solutions and technologies.
Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
