Electrical Technician and Instrumentation Technician

Maintain and repair an electrical generation power plant controls and data acquisition systems that directly affect the reliability and safety of the plant’s operations. Performs a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical instrumentation. Includes the maintenance and operation of control, compliance, and data acquisition systems. To include but not limited to air damper control devices, automatic control valves, 4-20ma transducers and pressure switches, and other instrumentation and electrical components operating on a turbine generator set, steam boiler, fluid pumps, air compressors, conveyor belt systems, fans, electric motors, ash conveying system, chemical injecting systems, mobile equipment, air monitoring equipment and other equipment not mentioned.
Position reports to:
Maintenance Manager. Position requires on call overtime work which occurs occasionally on nights, days, weekends or holidays.
Job Function:
Performs proper adjustment and calibration of all plant instrumentation while assisting in maintaining and updating preventive maintenance program for all instrument and control devices.
Responsible for conducting setup and the continued operation of all control devices, control system, alarms, and trips. Including Rockwell DCS system and various PLC maintenance, upgrades and programming.
Responsible for calibration and maintenance of plant Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM) equipment and for compiling all air emission reports to EPA and VT Agency of Natural Resources. Hence basic experience using Microsoft Word and Excel is needed.
Responsible for calibration and maintenance of plant Continuous Opacity Monitoring (COM) equipment. Task requires climbing a 212 foot stack to access equipment.
Maintain and trouble shoot plant equipment and control equipment to the highest possible standard maximizing availability and reliability with strict observance of plant safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting and maintenance functions including, but not limited to motors, MCCs, relays, breakers, electrical disconnects of rotating machinery is desirable but not required.
Must be able to read, interpret and work with service manuals, blueprints, sketches, technical manuals, control wire diagrams and other technical written instructions to evaluate and maintain proper equipment operation.
Ability to use various test equipment such as, multi meter, dead weight testers, gas analyzers, and pressure/temperature calibrators and signal generators .
Ability to install pneumatic air tubing, valve actuators, automatic valve positioners and perform automatic valve maintenance.
Responsible for knowing and adhering to Site Safety Manual and reporting any unsafe condition or acts to your supervisor.
Responsible for routinely attending and completing all required training programs to include safety, environmental and industry related.
Responsible for maintaining a positive attitude, professional, respectful and courteous behavior, motivation, initiative, cooperation and participation.
Acts as a team member with all employees while complying with all policies and procedures.
Position will be assigned further responsibilities including, but not limited to, certain maintenance/housekeeping and administrative tasks deemed appropriate. Other duties as assigned.

Must be able to personally respond to plant emergencies.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, blueprints, drawing, technical manuals, etc.

Must have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. Verbal and written.
Must be able to operate a computer terminal, calculator, etc.
Must be physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication.
Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing, sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, silo and the like as required); stooping; squatting; crouching; crawling; kneeling; reaching; grasping; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50lbs); feeling; talking and hearing.
Capable of performing repetitive motions as required.
Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, P&ID prints and manuals.
Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas, pipes and the like) as required.
Must be physically capable of performing demanding work at various heights and in adverse conditions during operations, shutdowns, and in fire/emergency activities.
Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses etc.
Ability to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test.
Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
Ability to learn and be certified in CPR/First Aid.
Education/Experience
Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or four years related experience and/or training; licenses, endorsements; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of power generation, process equipment and technology strongly suggested.
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time for Vermont.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
85% of the work is performed indoors and 15% is performed outdoors.
