Essential Function
The Senior Director of Strategy and Business Development is responsible for leading strategic planning and driving business development activities across Sally Beauty Holdings. In addition to managing the strategic planning cycle, this role identifies organic and inorganic growth opportunities, builds the business development pipeline, and ensures that efforts support the long-range growth algorithm of SBH. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corporate strategy, business development, and market analysis, with the ability to influence and drive change across the organization.
Primary Duties
30% Lead the development of the strategic plan and always on strategy efforts. Work with senior leaders to set strategic priorities, goals, and delivery plans. Identifies risks and opportunities for both the B2B business (BSG/CosmoProf) and the Sally Beauty business.
30% Introduce, explore & present justification for new business initiatives and investments, including M&A and business development opportunities. Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and industry leaders. Lead negotiation process and due diligence processes for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships
15% Partners with FP&A on long range financial targets and KPIs. Monitors growth strategy efforts: identifies leading indicators of success at the initiative level and ensures leadership alignment. Collaborates on modeling of business development opportunities.
15% Serves as critical thought partner for senior leadership. Drives strategic conversation beyond structured touch points.
10% Lead and mentor a team of strategy and business development professionals. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Experience in Public Company Corporate Strategy
Experience in M&A
Management consulting experience strongly preferred
Strong cross-functional leadership and ability to work effectively with people at all levels and across pyramids
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to tell compelling business and results stories
Innate curiosity and ability to flex between big picture strategic thinking and sharp attention to detail
Ability to take the right partners at the right time, influence without authority, and to collaborate in a team environment
Track record of strategic thinking and proven thought leadership
Ability to identify problems, generate solutions, evaluate alternatives, and lead team to make recommendations
Ability to develop and execute a plan with high degree of independence
Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively, and manage your and your team’s time to meet goals/objectives
Ability to lead problem solving sessions for larger groups with a wide range of stakeholders

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
