Director of Business Development Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) is an international, not‑profit medical professional society dedicated to improving cancer patient outcomes by advancing cancer immunotherapy science and application. Position Overview The Director of Business Development is a senior staff leader responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive strategy to secure financial support for SITC’s programs, initiatives and long‑term growth. The role cultivates partnerships and financial support across industry, academia, foundations, major donors and individual gifts. Key Details Reports to: Executive Director Direct Reports: Senior Development Manager (2), Development Manager Employment Status: Exempt, Full‑time (minimum 37.5 hours/week) Level: Senior‑Level Location: Downtown Milwaukee, WI – minimum two days onsite (including Wednesday all‑staff office day) Position Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Planning Collaborate with SITC leadership to develop fundraising goals and objectives. Translate strategic objectives into actionable revenue‑generation strategies that support education, research, and member initiatives. Identify new markets and partnership opportunities to expand SITC’s reach and financial sustainability. Corporate & Industry Relations Primary point of contact for industry partners, cultivating strong, mission‑aligned relationships. Lead development, negotiation and management of sponsorship and exhibit agreements. Organize industry engagement opportunities, including the annual corporate roundtable and stakeholder site visits. Grant & Fundraising Development Oversee grant proposal creation, submission, compliance, and post‑award reporting. Collaborate with program staff to develop compelling proposals aligned with funder interests. Track and report on proposal outcomes, deliverables, and performance metrics. Revenue and Program Oversight Manage sponsorship, exhibit, and grant‑related budgets and reconciliations. Integrate sponsor and grant deliverables into program planning and implementation. Develop and maintain systems for managing proposals, contracts, and reporting. Leadership & Collaboration Lead strategic discussions to identify new funding sources. Build major giving relationships in collaboration with the Forward Fund Council. Mentor and support staff, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. Represent SITC at external meetings and events. Operations & Administration Manage vendor relationships and RFP processes as needed. Ensure compliance with fundraising regulations and ethical standards. Perform additional duties as assigned. Skills & Qualifications Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships across corporate, academic and nonprofit sectors. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree, CAE or CFRE designation preferred. Experience in business development, fundraising or corporate relations, preferably within a scientific, healthcare or nonprofit association setting. Other Requirements Travel: Approximately 4‑6 weeks per year. Physical: Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs may be required. Work Hours: Full‑time.
