Description:

Position Summary

The Administrative Nurse III (Nurse Manager) is accountable and responsible for providing oversight of the department day to day operations. The Nurse Manager serves as a resource for physicians, nursing and support services. The Nurse Manager identifies strategies to monitor and evaluate resource management decisions, process improvement and quality initiatives in the department. The Nurse Manager relates effectively with department team members for high quality delivery of services and maintains high quality relations with other departments and nursing units. The Nurse Manager participates in all mandatory education requirements, maintenance of records and updating of policies, procedures and skills of personnel in the department.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Professional/Leadership

• Motivates and manages clinical support staff

• Manages the unit/service line's day-to-day clinical operations, including practice standards, staffing, and quality improvement

• Develops and implements action plans to improve staff development

• Acts as a professional leadership role model

• Manages, plans and monitors unit/service line activities staffing, scheduling and patient assignments

• Manages and controls unit/service line expenditures within establish budgets

• Communicates effectively and maintains confidentiality with patients/families, medical staff, nursing staff and interdepartmental staff

• Advocates for patients, families and their significant others, coworkers, community, and the nursing profession

• Promotes collaboration between coworkers, all members of the health care team as well as patients, their families, and significant others

• Demonstrates the highest level of customer service to internal and external customers

• Communicates in an effective and professional manner to reach conflict resolution

• Actively participates in Health Center communication processes through timely review and response to electronic and written messages.

• Organizational

• Adheres to and enforce the Medical /Health Center's Code of Conduct.

• Treats patients/families, staff, students and visitors with respect and dignity.

• Adheres to and enforces clinical support staff time, overtime and attendance policies.

• Completes electronic learning modules and related programs as assigned by Medical Center Learning by established date.

• Complies with University Health Services TB and fit-testing requirements.

• Initiates resolution of patient care problems utilizing established communication channels/chain of command.

• Resolves recurring clinical practice and/or related unit problems.

• Education/Research

• Facilitates the planning, presenting and evaluating of learning/educational experiences for staff and students.

• Serves as resource to other nursing staff and students.

• Directs unit-based quality initiatives and provides feedback and education to staff.

• Encourages and supports nursing and multidisciplinary research efforts conducted on the unit and in the Health Center.

• Assists in the development, monitoring, and presentation of internal quality measures and initiatives.

• Provides in-service training to non-provider staff in the area of quality improvement.

• Strategic Planning and Goal Setting

• Study most recent trends, innovative approaches in the ambulatory health care industry to apply new concepts towards organizational strategic goals.

• Manages positive relations with providers to facilitate patient care. br>
• Provides primary input to the executive management team on decisions affecting practice site(s), as well as feedback on department programmatic, planning, and policy issues.

• Reviews literature for upcoming HRSA and Illinois regulatory audits; br>
• Co-manage the implementation of Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), throughout the Mile Square enterprise.

• Meet established work/compliance/project deadlines as required.

• Responsible for developing methods for data collection and extracts data as required.

• Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure policies and procedures for the practice site(s) are reviewed by staff as required by University, Medical Center, MSHC, and external regulatory agencies, particularly the Health Resources and Services Administration.

• Implement MSHC Quality and Compliance Plans at practice site(s) which is multidisciplinary and support the continuum of patient care needs.

• Monitor quality of patient care prepare, regular reports of quality indicators, and initiate appropriate interventions as needed; br>
• Space Planning

• Participate in disaster planning to ensure continuity of service in extreme situations.

• Staff Management

• Interview, hire, orient, lead, mentor, and evaluate performance of all staff under their direction to meet departmental and organizational needs.

• Verify staff completes all Learning Management System (LMS) modules and has current licensure and certifications prior to deadlines/expiration (i.e. br>
• Perform other related duties and participates in special projects and assignments as assigned

• Clinical

• Completes required orientation program and unit-specific competencies.

• Develops, implements and updates the patient's plan of care based on on-going assessment of the patient and input from the patient's family.

• Verifies and implements orders from physician, physician assistant and/or advance practice nurse by performing interventions as prescribed by the provider and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.

• Demonstrates a commitment to UI Health's values through teamwork and effective communication in an effort to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, customer satisfaction and a clean, safe and therapeutic environment.

• Manage the vaccines and vaccine for children

• Conduct Screening Tests for Common Diseases/Viruses.

• Assist physicians or residents with patient care when needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
    1. Three years of professional nursing experience.OR
    2. Two years of professional nursing experience and one year of related advanced education.
  2. Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications
  3. Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers
  4. Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training
  5. Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
