Preschool Assistant Teacher - Afternoon

Concord Carousel Preschool has an opportunity for a caring and energetic assistant teacher to join our team of educators. Candidates must have a strong desire to work with young children in a classroom setting. Candidates are required to meet EEC assistant teacher qualifications at the time of application. The ideal candidate is flexible, willing to work as part of team and a desire for personal growth in the early childhood field. The successful candidate will have access to ongoing training and competitive compensation and have the opportunity to enroll their age-appropriate children in our program with no tuition cost and special discounted rates for other programs.

Pay range: $17.75 - $21.50/hour; starting pay based on qualifications. This is an hourly, part-time position, 12-30 hours per week.

This is a 10-month school year position following the Concord Public School calendar from late September until mid-June. Hours until 5:15P (start time TBD), with earlier hours available, additional hours for planning, staff meetings, etc. Excludes school vacation weeks, professional days and holidays.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Childcare Services Manager, Assistant Teachers work with a Lead Teacher and share responsibility for the supervision and management of preschool students in the program while maintaining a classroom/group in accordance with the goals and curriculum plans of the Concord Carousel Preschool.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case-by-case basis.

Implement curriculum, meeting the social-emotional, physical and intellectual needs of the children based on the goals, philosophy and general curriculum plan of the Carousel Preschool Program.
Help to create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging for all children and adults.
Assists with the creation and implementation of weekly activity plans with support from the Teachers and Lead Teachers.
Assist with preparation of activities and other program functions. (e.g. clean-up, mealtime, transitions, etc.).
Provide positive role-modeling, reinforcement and assists with behavior guidance when necessary.
Ensure the health and safety of children through constant supervision, arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment and knowledge of emergency procedures.
Facilitate interactions among children to provide opportunities for the development of physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth.
Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings and professional development training, as required by EEC and the Childcare Manager.
Show awareness of specific individual health plans and comply with plans, including required training (EPI pen administration, insulin pump operation, etc.) when appropriate.
Exhibit knowledge about and adhere to program policies and procedures, including those for emergencies, medication administration, suspected abuse/neglect and referrals.
Assist with operation of the classroom in compliance with EEC regulations.
Comply with personnel policies of the Town of Concord, Concord Recreation and EEC/Childcare Programs

RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 16 years of age and enrolled in a HS Early Childhood program (work permit needed for under 18).
Must have a suitable BRC.
Must meet EEC work experience and education requirements for Site Coordinator Qualifications.
Bachelor Degree in Education or related field, preferred.
Must have completed EEC Essentials Training.
Must comply with EEC Background Records Check regulations and Professional Qualification Registry requirements.
Must complete a staff orientation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Ability to work in a high-energy environment with children ages 2.9 – 5 years.
Working knowledge of child development and teaching strategies.
Good written and oral communication skills.

Employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk and hear. Operates computer, printer, video display terminal, keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier, facsimile machine and all other standard office equipment requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required.
