What We Do The Public Works Department provides a variety of services related to the development, construction, inspection, improvement, and maintenance of the City's infrastructure. This infrastructure includes traffic lights, sidewalks, streetlights, and roadways. In addition, Public Works runs the following enterprise operations: Water, Solid Waste, Wastewater, Stormwater, and Parking Operations. What We're Looking For The City of Beverly Hills is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Environmental Maintenance Worker . The incumbent will perform a variety of assignments including unskilled manual labor in the construction, maintenance and repair tasks of the public works operations. Please Note: There are two vacancies for this position. The work schedule for one vacancy is 1:00am-9:30am Monday through Friday. The work schedule for the second vacancy is 6:30am-3:00pm Monday through Friday. Selection Process This is an open competitive recruitment process. The selection process may consist of the following components: Supplemental questionnaire Virtual multiple choice exam In-person performance exam Oral exam/interview The best qualifying candidates will be invited to a written exam which is tentatively scheduled for August 9, 2024. Top scoring candidates will be invited to a panel interview which is tentatively scheduled for August 21, 2024 (all dates are subject to change). All candidates who pass the first round interview will earn placement on an eligibility list, which may be used for current and future vacancies in the job classification. The eligibility list established for this recruitment may also be used to fill a lower-level position. Conviction History As a finalist for a job, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you are a finalist. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with the City. If you are selected as a finalist, you will be contacted to schedule a fingerprinting appointment. Disaster Service Workers: All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. Essential Duties Steam clean sidewalks with motorized equipment. May collect solid waste including residential and commercial wastes, recycling, green waste and various other assignments. Remove weeds and other debris from sidewalk and tree well. Clean debris around trash bins in alley, commercial and residential area and also clean catch basins, sewers and related facilities. Remove graffiti from signs and building walls. May assist staff in emergency/disaster situations which include cleanup, repair, traffic control, etc. May be required to respond to after-hours emergency conditions. Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Possession of a valid Class C driver's license with the ability to obtain a Class B license prior to the completion of the probationary period. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the use of maintenance type hand and power tools. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Knowledge of typical occupational hazards and safety precautions. Ability to operate a motorized sidewalk sweeper and cleaner, light trucks, vans and other small vehicles.
