Under the direction of the Director of Operations (Director), the Assistant Director of Operations is responsible for anticipating and meeting the Company’s evolving needs and objectives. This senior level position provides firm, fair and consistent leadership to employees while fostering an environment of trust and open communication. The Assistant Director of Operations assists with managing, directing, and coordinating overall plant operations through managers, supervisors, leaders, and employees. Assuring safety, quality and performance objectives are a foundational expectation for this role.

Requirements:
  • Develop and execute the company’s business strategies to achieve the goals of the Director of Operations
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards including but not limited to: Human Resources, Good Manufacturing Processes, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Food and Drug Administration, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection, Safe Quality Food, and the United States Department of Agriculture
  • With the aim of achieving high performance, build a positive, team-oriented work culture and environment where continuous improvement, innovative and positive thinking, teamwork, positive behaviors, safety, and security are natural outcomes.
  • Direct, lead, manage and supervise production, maintenance, quality assurance and warehouse supervisors and production employees in a manner that promotes an environment that is conducive to high productivity and low waste.
  • Develop required skills and knowledge to a level of depth appropriate to keep production as highly functional as needed to meet organizational goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement plans for the maximum utilization of materials, equipment, and plant labor. Adjust plant labor according to production requirements. Evaluate labor and material usage daily. Report on variances daily to Director of Operations.
  • Continuous review and evaluation of safety, production costs, processes, procedures, equipment performance, labor utilization, and product quality. Modify production processes and procedures that will increase productivity and quality and reduce waste.
  • Meet and interact daily with production, maintenance, quality and warehouse supervisors to evaluate each department’s progress and ensure that corrective action plans are in place to address any opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, orders, and product inconsistencies.
  • Ensure the training of production, maintenance and warehouse supervisors and production employees in the processes, procedures, and methods required to achieve the company’s standards for safety, quality and quantity.
  • Plan, assign, and direct the work of subordinate staff for the achievement of operational goals and objectives.
  • Review weekly/ monthly production initiatives with staff and facilitate communication between sales, marketing, and production planning to assure customer requirements are met.
  • Evaluate and appraise employees’ safety and performance and follow-up with proper documentation both directly and as part of a team. Administer and document disciplinary procedures, both verbal and written, when necessary.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Ellsworth Coop policies and applicable laws, responsibilities include training, assigning, and delegating work, appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving opportunities.
  • Promote a safe, secure, and positive work environment for all Ellsworth Coop Employees.
  • Other duties as appropriate or assigned.
