OverviewKemper, a publicly traded, multi-billion dollar insurance and financial services company, seeks a talented and motivated Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. This role provides an opportunity to expand knowledge of ledgers, consolidation, and financial reporting within a multi-faceted insurance company with exposure to SEC, GAAP, and statutory accounting. Kemper is committed to developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as across its operating entities. The Senior Accountant will assist with Corporate, P&C, and Life investment accounting for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting functions.Location: Chicago, IllinoisSalary: The range for this position is $68,000-$113,400. Offers are determined based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, among other factors.Position ResponsibilitiesPrepare and review monthly journal entries and general ledger reconciliationsPrepare and review various reporting schedulesConsolidate information for internal and external financial reportingWork with internal and external auditors and provide necessary supportPrepare analytical schedules, analyze variances, and provide support for internal requestsActively identify and complete process improvement projectsReview work of Staff Accountants and provide meaningful feedbackCreate and perform ad hoc queries and analyses as neededMinimum RequirementsBA/BS degree in Accounting5-8 years of experience in corporate accountingInsurance/financial services experience is a plus; investment accounting experience is a plusCPA or CPA candidate preferredFamiliarity with US GAAP and statutory accounting principles is a plusExperience navigating a large ERP environmentProficiency in MS Office, with intermediate to advanced ExcelExperience in Workday and Blackline is a strong plusOther SkillsEffective writing skills and strong attention to detailStrong analytical, organizational, and time-management skillsProgressive thinking, strong work ethic, and ability to propose innovative solutionsExcellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staffAbility to identify, analyze, and solve accounting issuesKemper is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
