Argosight has been retained by a prestigious and historic organization to find a dynamic and forward-thinking Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join their executive team. Position Title: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Location: Boston, MA

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Industry: Retail (Brick + Mortar & DTC)


We are seeking a COO who will oversee and manage our client's strategic and operational functions. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of a historic institution, driving operational excellence, optimizing efficiency, and executing strategic initiatives that align with the organization’s mission and growth.


Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Leadership:

  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives.
  • Manage relationships with key partners, driving financial performance and stability.


2. Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with the CEO and senior management to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and innovation, with a focus on community engagement.


3. Financial Management:

  • Manage the budget and financial performance, ensuring fiscal responsibility and profitability.
  • Analyze financial data and reports to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Work with the Controller to develop and monitor annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.


4. Human Resources:

  • Oversee talent acquisition, development, and retention strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.


5. Customer Experience:

  • Ensure exceptional customer service across all locations and online platforms.
  • Work with the marketing team to enhance customer experiences and drive engagement.
  • Monitor customer feedback and address concerns promptly and effectively.


6. Technology and Innovation:

  • Leverage technology to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and enhance the customer experience.
  • Lead digital transformation initiatives to drive competitiveness and innovation.


7. Vendor Relationship Management:

  • Oversee partnerships with key vendors, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Monitor vendor performance and contract compliance.

8. Real Estate and Lease Management:

  • Oversee real estate assets, including property management and lease arrangements.
  • Negotiate lease terms and manage relationships with landlords and property managers.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize the use and value of the real estate portfolio.
  • Oversee the design and construction of new stores and remodel existing retail locations.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior management role, preferably within the retail sectors.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing operations, driving strategic initiatives, and achieving financial targets.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, nimble, and entrepreneurial organization. A willingness and ability to test and learn and adjust strategies and tactics as needed.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using technology and data analytics to drive operational improvements.
