Arlington County's Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a Public Health Nurse to serve as the program coordinator and technical expert for the Immunizations program in the Community Health Services Bureau (CHSB). The programs in the Bureau provide a range of services to improve and maintain the overall health of clients and prevent and control disease burden in the community. The programs provide case management for communicable diseases, including active and latent Tuberculosis (TB), Newcomer Health (refugee) services, and services for Family Planning, Immunizations, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), which include testing for HIV and other STIs as well as medications through the Virginia Medication Assistance Program (VA MAP).

This position works with a multidisciplinary team providing immunization services to children and adults from the community. The clinics serve an ethnically and culturally diverse population where approximately 65% of clients are Spanish speaking, some with limited English proficiency.

Responsibilities include:

* Serving as the Immunization Action Plan (IAP) Coordinator for the County and the Virginia Department of Health;
* Performing as the primary point of contact and technical expert to the community regarding immunization issues;
* Using assessment information to actively plan, implement and evaluate immunization services;
* Ongoing review to evaluate immunization services, constantly being aware of trends and monitoring ongoing issues and challenges;
* Maintaining the vaccine ordering and management system for Immunization Clinics;
* Coordinating reporting, quality assurance and vaccine management issues with the Virginia Department of Health;
* Conducting community assessments by: tracking immunization statistics utilizing Center for Disease Control (CDC) software that will identify trends that may indicate problems;
* Completing training to internal and external customers regarding immunizations;
* Analyzing program data/statistics to meet Federal, State and Local reporting mandates;
* Participating in Emergency Preparedness and Response activities; and
* Contributing to program planning and development of policy and procedures.

Minimums:

* Bachelor's degree in Nursing;
* One year of experience working as a Registered Nurse; and
* Licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia*
* If eligible from another state, candidate will be allowed 60 days to obtain license.

Substitution: Education may be substituted by additional directly related experience on a year-for-year basis.

Desirables: Preference maybe given to candidates with one or more of the following additional experience:

* Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, or related field;
* Serving in a Public Health setting;
* Work experience in Immunizations, Family Planning, and/or working with children and adolescents; and/or
* Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Licenses/Certifications: Must be licensed or eligible for license by endorsement to practice professional nursing as a Registered Nurse in Virginia. The Board of Nursing may issue a license by endorsement to an applicant who has been licensed as a professional nurse by another state, the District of Columbia, or a United States possession or territory.

Applicant must possess or obtain by the time of appointment a valid Driver License, or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

A pre-hire federal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry check will be performed.

Additional Information:

Hours: Forty hours per week. Flexible schedule Monday through Friday within core hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Some evening hours are required to cover evening clinics.

This is not a remote/telework opportunity. Occasional remote work may be approved in advance by the Supervisor.

Working Conditions:

* The applicant must be available to work after hours and in emergency situations.
* The applicant has potential exposure to infectious diseases.



Employment restrictions: To ensure that dual relationships are avoided and that employees who are also clients do not relate to their service provider as co-professionals, employees will not be hired by the County to provide or support services to the team or program in which they are current clients:

* You cannot concurrently receive behavioral health services from Arlington County Community Service Board (CSB) programs while employed in an Arlington County CSB program (exception Crisis Intervention services).
* At least 24 months must have passed between receipt of CSB services from Arlington County and employment in an Arlington County CSB program.
