Primary Services is excited to announce the role of Market Compliance Data Analyst for our client. This is an opportunity to leverage your expertise in data science and energy trading within a large, well-established organization known for its strong presence in the U.S. energy markets. In this role, you will support the development and implementation of advanced data analytics and machine learning models to monitor compliance and detect market anomalies. You will work closely with the Market Compliance Director, Senior Market Compliance Analyst, and other key stakeholders to ensure adherence to market regulations and enhance the organization's compliance capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Market Compliance Director to build and maintain robust data and analytics capabilities for market compliance.
  • Work with the Senior Market Compliance Analyst and Senior Regulatory Advisor to identify and enable priority compliance monitoring screens.
  • Develop and implement data strategies to integrate both structured and unstructured data for analysis.
  • Lead the design of quantitative, regression, and probabilistic market compliance analytic screens.
  • Coordinate with IT teams to develop and deploy compliance monitoring tools.
  • Support the evolution from pre-configured compliance screens to AI/ML-driven detection systems.
  • Design and conduct ad hoc data analysis to identify new trading pattern anomalies and potential compliance risks.
  • Develop, validate, and deploy machine learning algorithms to address false positives and complex business challenges.
  • Implement data anomaly detection systems to identify potential market manipulation or rule violations.
  • Create data visualizations to effectively communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Utilize Python, SQL, and other programming tools for data development tasks and queries.
  • Assist in developing market compliance monitoring and training tools.
  • Support internal audits and regulatory inquiries by providing data-driven insights.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Analysis, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in data science, focusing on data analysis, machine learning model development, or data monitoring system implementation.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an energy trading firm or a compliance role.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, coding, and modeling tasks.
  • Experience with Python statistical analysis packages.
  • Expertise in data anomaly detection and statistical modeling techniques.
  • Strong experience with database queries and data manipulation.
  • Familiarity with energy trading or financial markets is preferred.
  • Experience in a market compliance role at an exchange, ISO/RTO, or regulatory oversight body is a plus.
  • Knowledge of U.S. energy markets and products (Natural Gas, Power, LNG, Renewables) and related trading practices.
  • Understanding of regulatory perspectives on market manipulation from agencies like the CFTC and FERC is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and industry tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python, and Alteryx.
  • Must be located in the Houston, Texas area.
