The Sr. Manufacturing/Combustion Engineer position responsible for troubleshooting, improving, and maintaining the process oven equipment and controllers of the plant. Under the direction and guidance of the Engineering Manager, or senior leadership position to whom assigned, perform a variety of functions in the development and / or improvement of production methods, processes, machines, automation / interface, equipment, and tooling designs used in the manufacture of wire products. Investigate and recommend areas for cost reduction, perform computations, collect engineering data, perform feasibility studies, prepare reports, and handle other specific tasks as required. Ultimately support the plant in meeting all Key Performance Indicators.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the plant's Key Performance Indices by,

  • Directing major engineering projects and complete tasks as assigned. Perform various duties including: engineering studies and investigations, machine / equipment / tooling design, process and assembly development, database design and development, equipment acquisition and plant layout. Work collectively with Quality, Production, Maintenance and other departments to improve manufacturing methods and reduce costs.
  • Making recommendations regarding process design from the standpoint of manufacturing engineering. Participate in the implementation of new methods, equipment, machines and tooling. As necessary, assist supervisors and operators during the course of production as well as with conducting trial runs.
  • Maintaining product and process specifications including database and report modifications as needed.
  • Investigating improved methods and equipment. Develop advanced methods of production and data collection. Simplify or eliminate manual operations, utilizing and developing automation approaches when feasible. Investigate problems in production or operations and devised solutions to increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Recommend improvements in preventive maintenance, safety and housekeeping.
  • Using initiative, ingenuity and sound engineering techniques and approaches while performing technical investigations. Seek and accept functional guidance and assistance from others on matters within their areas of competence.
  • Promoting, evaluating and recommending safe work practices and accident-free environment. Ensure that operating procedures for all new and existing equipment have been documented for use by others.
  • Exercising responsibility for professional development through continuing study, attending technical society meetings and similar means. Keep informed on developments in methods, machines, equipment, tooling and materials through technical literature, trade shows and vendor visits.
  • Continuously seeking out, evaluating, and presenting ideas for improvement to quality, cost, performance, and environmental impact.
  • Assisting supervisors with new production techniques and assists with troubleshooting rejected parts. May provide technical leadership and assist in training less experienced engineers.
  • Performing other related duties as directed by management.


Requirements

  • 5+ years engineering experience with Gas Fired Ovens
  • Familiar with maintenance and upgrades of Industrial Gas Fired Ovens
  • Full understanding of NFPA 86 requirements
