Provides highly individualized services in the Peer Living Room (PLR) in Burlington, NC.
The PLR is a drop in space for anyone in the community seeking support, information, and connection with others seeking stability with behavioral health needs and increased quality of life and relationships. The PLR promotes individual self-determination and decision-making to individuals with Mental Health or Substance Abuse issues. Certified Peer Support Specialists also provide essential expertise and consultation to promote a culture in which each individual's point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities. This position may serve as a representative of RHA and the PLR with community stakeholders. The PLR also supports individuals in engaging in services, as requested. These interventions are strength-based and focused on promoting recovery, symptom reduction, increased coping skills, and achievement of the highest level of functioning in the community. Functions as a role model of competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.

Must have a current Certification as a PSS in NC and at least 2 years of experience in the role as a CPSS.

Pay: $17 per hour

Schedule: Primarily weekdays, with option to offer evening or weekend activities or attend community events.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Team Lead to develop a welcoming and trauma-informed space in the PLR.
  • Develop group activities, manage schedule, maintain the PLR, and oversee all activities provided in the space.
  • Modeling effective coping and self-help techniques to individuals
  • Providing empowerment skills and support in successful recovery living
  • Assisting individuals in finding resources, advising of processes, and encouraging follow through with proposed resolutions, locating social activities, or provide other assistance as needed
  • Leading peer support groups with individuals served
  • Supporting/assisting individuals in daily decision making and resolution of minor problems
  • Facilitating social opportunities in the community
  • Fostering development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities
  • Sharing personal story of recovery and resilience to instill hope

Position Requirements:
  • Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist in NC or PA
  • 2 years experience working with individuals with behavioral health issues preferred
  • Valid driver's license, auto insurance and reliable transportation

Pre-employment screening:
  • Complete criminal background
  • Name checked in the registries. (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities)
  • Drug testing
  • Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements.
  • Proof of employment history or references (if required)
  • Positions that require driving Proof of driver's license, driver's insurance, and vehicle, IF required for providing transportation for individuals.
