GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to work on the clinical research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Andrew T. Chan, Chief of the Clinical and Translational Epidemiology Unit at MGH. The CTEU and the Division of Gastroenterology are research units within the Department of Medicine. The Chan Laboratory's mission is to advance epidemiologic investigation for the translation of discoveries into effective clinical interventions. Specifically, we are looking for someone to assist in our ongoing studies in the prevention and interception of gastrointestinal diseases, including cancers, and other translational projects related to nutrition, the gut microbiome, and health and disease. All of our studies aim to advance our understanding of the development of disease with a goal of identifying effective interventions in precision medicine.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The selected candidate will work to support clinical research projects directly supervised by the principal investigator and other investigators within the CTEU. Candidates will be expected to conduct literature review and summary, request and download data from electronic health records, data cleaning, statistical analysis, prepare tables and figures, and assist with presentations and publications.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will be expected to work full time (40 hours/week). The work is expected to focus on the execution of an increasing portfolio of clinical research projects including, but not limited to: disease phenotyping in electronic health records data using novel language models; predictive modeling of disease outcomes; understanding the role of gut microbiome, lifestyle, and genetics in gastrointestinal disease outcomes.

The research environment is conducive to those individuals interested in eventually pursing advanced medical, graduate, or public health advanced degrees, and especially those with an interest in gastrointestinal disease prevention, the gut microbiome, and nutrition.

The position will begin in June-July 2024.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
* Excellent programming skills in R, SAS, or Python.
* Ability to manage time effectively.
* Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
* Ability to maintain accurate records.
* Ability to organize, analyze, summarize, and present data.
* Experience in epidemiological/clinical/bioinformatics related research are preferred.

EDUCATION:

* B.S. degree (conferred or expected May 2024) or equivalent in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics, Bioinformatics or related discipline required. Individuals with a M.S. or equivalent in one of these disciplines are preferred.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:

* 1 year of clinical-related research training (internships / research) preferred. This additional research experience is expected to have occurred beyond traditional course work.


* Those with a minimum of 1-2 years of directly related work experience will be considered for a Clinical Research Coordinator II position.
