The Role

Under general direction, the Leave Management Specialist is responsible for coordinating and administering leave requests which require specialized attention, particularly those arising under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), statutory leave regulations, short-term or long-term disability plans, and workers’ compensation policies. Case administration includes comprehensive management and adherence to employment laws and agency policies. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village


What You Will Do

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on all requests for leave, including communicating with employees regarding their need for leave, responsibilities while on leave, interpretation of agency policies, and liaising with carriers and state agencies as appropriate.
  • Responsible for requesting and reviewing all documentation pertaining to leaves, completing and submitting all required paperwork on time, determining leave eligibility and designating as appropriate, and tracking leave usage through return to work.
  • Provide exemplary customer service and assistance across all levels of the agency.
  • Administer all aspects of the worker’s compensation program, coordinating the administrative parts of the claim, initial employee statement, regular check-in’s, and ensuring a timely submission of reportable claims with the carrier.
  • Relay updates between employees and their Managers / Program Directors during leave for proper management of timecard entry and a smooth return to work.
  • Maintain accurate leave records on ADP, in accordance with leave requirements and best practices by using trackers, outlook reminders, and detailed case notes.

Who You Will Be

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with Seven+ (7+) years of Leave Management experience. 
    OR
  • Associate’s Degree in Human Resources or related field with Three+ (3+) years of leave management experience; 
    OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources with Two+ (2) + years of leave management experience.
  • In depth knowledge of the leave requirements and the other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite particularly in Word and Excel.
  • Experience with HRIS systems particularly with ADP Workforce Now.
  • Works well under pressure and with tight deadlines
