SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator Dr. Nicole McLaughlin The Clinical Research Assistant assists in recruitment acquisition and analysis of information for the OCD Neurosurgery Program. The Clinical Research Assistant interviews prospective participants to gather information prepares and maintains study records constructs patient visits and appointments enters data via computer programs and performs statistical analyses of resultant data. The Clinical Research Assistant participates in qualitative/quantitative analyses of resultant data and reviews relevant literature to gather information. The Clinical Research Assistant may participate in development of research protocols. The Clinical Research Assistant supports the study team in development of the intervention manual and materials and supports recruitment efforts of study participants.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provides assistance to Principal Investigator to oversee holistic process of neurosurgical evaluation including phone screens collection of patient medical records personal
* health information and correspondence with physicians patients and families
* Ensures protocol eligibility requirements are met and monitors adherence to the clinical and research protocols
* Creates and manages interdisciplinary standard operating procedure (SOP) manuals for all clinical surgical and research tasks
* Conducts MRI screenings for prospective and retrospective patients and organizes data collection for statistical analysis
* Coordinates scheduling of neurosurgery approval meetings prepares patients relevant records by creating clinical summaries; operates computers to enter study information into databases and performs computer-assisted statistical analysis
* Participates in quantitative and qualitative analyses of resultant in formation
* May assist in planning research protocols
* Reviews literature pertaining to research being conducted in order to better understand projects and gather relevant information

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Applied or Life Sciences or related area including courses in research methodologies

EXPERIENCE:

* Three to six months on-the-job experience to become familiar with specific research studies
* Knowledge of theory and techniques of research methodology
* Organizational skills to organize and prioritize own efforts on multiple projects and to gather research information format appropriately for computer data entry prepare and maintain records and reports schedule appointments etc.
* Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients' families and Hospital professionals to gather and exchange information
* Analytical skills to participate in developing research protocols perform statistical analyses and participate in qualitative/quantitative analyses of research data
* Technical ability to operate and maintain computer systems and MRI-related tasks
