The School of Pharmacy has an exciting opening for a Director for Philanthropy. This is a full-time permanent position.

The Director of Philanthropy works closely with the Chief Advancement Officer of the School of Pharmacy (SoP) to increase private support for the School through fundraising efforts. The position works collaboratively and creatively with academic leaders, department staff, volunteers and development peers to develop and implement strategic fundraising strategies.

This position also provides leadership for the staff and programs associated with donor stewardship, alumni relations and leadership giving to help ensure a pipeline of future major donors.

What You Will Do:

Frontline Fundraising (50%)

* Manage the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospective donors and alumni by developing and facilitating relationships with those who have the capacity to make major gifts of $50,000 or more.
* Generate new leads and qualify major gift and planned giving prospects.
* Participate cooperatively in the University's prospect management and tracking system and work with the Regional Giving and Planned Giving teams to maximize support for the SoP.
* Prepare, review and edit written proposals, endowment agreements, gift illustrations and other materials needed to secure and steward gifts.

Management (40%)

* Manage the day-to-day operations of the School's development program, including supervising 2-3 direct reports.
* Provide supervision, guidance, mentorship and strategic support to staff in service of strengthening relationships between the SoP and donors and volunteers.
* Provide strategic oversight of the SoP's annual philanthropy, leadership giving and pipeline development.
* Coordinate the participation of administrators, academic leaders, volunteers and advancement staff in major gift fundraising activities.
* Supervise all stewardship efforts, including but not limited to gift processing and donor acknowledgement.
* Own and track development budgets, ensuring budgets map to strategic priorities.

Strategy and Program Development (5%)

* Advise on strategies that promote philanthropic priorities of the SoP and University.
* Participate in developing an annual plan, including goals, objectives and strategies.
* Provide direction in designing and implementing advancement programs to sustain and increase support of the University.

Other duties as Assigned (5%)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree AND at least six years of progressively responsible experience in institutional development/advancement or a related field, with an emphasis and proven track record in cultivating and soliciting major gifts.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

* Experience working with volunteers.
* Curiosity in understanding the motivations of individuals or missions of corporations and foundations, connecting passions to philanthropic opportunities for support.

What You Can Expect:

* Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
* Frequent local travel expected.
