  • JOB DESCRIPTION
    • Summary/Objective
      • Provide an enriched atmosphere where student athletes learn sport skills that will contribute to their development as an athlete and how to become a mature, able, and responsible members of society. Facilitate learning and guide student athletes toward the fulfillment of their potential for physical, intellectual, emotional and psychological growth and maturation. Responsible to the building principal and athletic director where assigned.
  • Essential Functions
    • Plans a practice plan that meets the team and individual needs, interests, and abilities of student athletes;
    • Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of student athletes;
    • Maintains a discipline that fosters a safe and positive environment for all student athletes and coaching staff in accordance with school and county policies;
    • Ensures adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students athletes;
    • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of proper skill levels, establishes clear objectives for all practices and games, and communicates these objectives to students;
    • Assesses the accomplishments of student athletes on a regular basis and provides appropriate feedback.
    • Counsels with colleagues, student athletes, and/or parents on a regular basis;
    • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student athlete life and conduct, and develops reasonable rules and procedures during practices, games and team transportation Maintains order during all team events in a fair and just manner;
    • Attends coaches meetings;
    • Employs a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved;
    • Respects students' personal spaces;
    • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation;
    • Makes provision for being available to students athletes and parents when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms;
    • Cooperates with other members of the coaching staff in planning practice times and gym use;
    • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
    • Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible;
    • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities;
    • Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies;
    • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with student athletes and their parents.
    • Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, and conferences;
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices.

    • Student athletes
    • Head coaches will supervise assistant coaches
  • Work Environment/ Physical Demands
    • Ability to sit and be mobile for long periods of time, numerous distractions, visual, auditory and ambulatory acuity important
    • Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds
  • Travel
    • Coaches will travel to away games
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and student athletes. Ability to maintain effective practice and game management strategies. Visual, auditory and ambulatory ability. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Conflict management skills. Strong organizational skills. Empathetic. Positive relationship builder. Knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to perform the function of the position as outlined.
