SUMMARY

The Associate Scientist - NA Applications utilizes their culinary background to support the Applications Department. The position is following recipes to make finished product samples, screen flavors in a variety of food and beverage bases, and provide all necessary support to the NA Applications team, as requested. The Associate Scientist - NA Applications also leverages culinary creativity as well as knowledge of ingredients and processing methods to develop ideas and concepts for new, innovative and exciting food and beverage products.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Accurately follow recipes and formulas to recreate finished food and beverage concepts for demonstrations to customers.
  • Prepare products for shipment by assembling, packing and labeling samples in appropriate containers.
  • Screen flavors in various food and beverage bases with precision.
  • Smell, taste and evaluate a variety of food and beverage products that may contain dairy, nuts and other allergens.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions with chefs, food scientists, flavorists, marketing professionals and sales teams to collaboratively create new ideas for finished food and beverages that showcase Edlong's product portfolio.
  • Participate in employee taste panels and other sensory training activities.
  • Follow lab safety guidelines and good manufacturing practices.
  • Maintain cleanliness of lab facilities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Contribute to the global R&D team's success by accomplishing related results in adherence to Edlong's Corporate Mission, Vision and Strategic goals as needed.
  • Sustain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Support the alignment of global business practices, processes, and procedures.
  • Engage in and contribute to Edlong's marketing campaigns, as requested (LinkedIn, webinars, blog posts, etc.) Execute other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors Degree in Culinary Science, or equivalent.

Culinary internship and/or 1-2 years of culinary experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to:
  • Read, write, comprehend written, electronic, spoken instructions, memos, correspondence and communicate verbally by phone and electronically in a professional manner in English.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one, large and small group situations to customers, clients, or other employees.
  • Compile data into reports and summaries.
  • Listen to customer needs and respond with appropriate product proposals to meet those needs.
  • Comply with procedures in completing written documentation.

MATHEMATICS SKILLS

Ability to:
  • Compute in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Perform mathematical operations using various units of money, weight, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to:

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The work location is a traditional lab setting in an environmentally controlled building.
  • On occasion the job does require the use of flammable and/or corrosive chemicals, which can be harmful if not utilized in a proper environment with proper safety considerations.
  • Travel on occasion, as needed.
  • Typical workday attendance will require standard business hours.
