OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

The Clinical Skills Program (CSP) is an educational and assessment resource designed to support the learning objectives (curriculum) of the Duke University School of Medicine. The Standardized Patient (SP) Program uses patient actors to provide simulated patient interactions for students who are learning patient interaction and physical exam skills. The ultimate goals of this program are to provide a safe environment for students to develop the interviewing skills, physical exam techniques, diagnostic reasoning, empathy and professional integrity needed for the practice of medicine. This position provides administrative support to the Clinical Skills Program as noted below.

WORK PERFORMED

Technology Systems Support (CAE LearningSpace - Learning Management System; SPMS - Standardized Patient Management System)

* Create and maintain Clinical Skills Lab (CSL) events in LearningSpace including student scheduling, creating event user groups, automation of announcements and recordings, and report access for faculty and students.
* Create user profiles for student, staff, faculty and clients using the CSL. Ensure that user privileges are assigned accurately and restrict access when necessary.
* Create and distribute LearningSpace user resources. Provide additional LearningSpace support and training as needed.
* Assist SPs with technology to facilitate their preparation for on-site events.
* Create and maintain SPMS recruitment and event timeslots as directed

Event Support

* Ensure proper set-up for all lab activities- signage, exam room set-up, case specific props and backup paper assessments, adjusting cameras.
* Assist with the implementation of all Clinical Skills Program events including student orientations, supervising Standardized Patients and student proctoring.
* Orient learners, faculty, and clients to Center's systems and expectations.
* Serve as a standardized patient as needed including case portrayal, physical exam demonstrations, and assessment and feedback of communication and interpersonal skills.
* Assist with reminder emails, as needed

Facility Maintenance

* Oversee inventory, maintenance and upkeep of all program space. Regularly inspect and restock lab, ordering supplies as needed.
* Notify Director of maintenance and housekeeping concerns and work with building manager to resolve any issues.
* Assist MedEd IT in maintaining lab computers: testing machines, documenting problems, submitting tickets, and working on site with Med Ed IT.

Other

* Assist in making room reservation management via Duke 25Live.
* Assist with payroll emails, as needed
* Assist with other tasks as requested.

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES

Work generally requires four (4) years of clerical or research experience to acquire strong skills in administrative or project research responsibilities as well as accepted office management, communications and research practices.

A bachelor's degree in a field of study directly related to the specific position may be substituted for the education and two years of the experience requirement.

Experience with CAE LearningSpace

Standardized Patient Program experience strongly preferred

Additional requirements:

This position requires occasional after hours work when Clinical Skills Program events so dictate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Work requires knowledge of basic mathematical, research and communications principles normally acquired through two years of postsecondary education.

Experience

Work generally requires four years of clerical or research experience to acquire strong skills in administrative or project research responsibilities as well as accepted office management, communications and research practices.

A bachelor's degree in a field of study directly related to the specific position may be substituted for the education and two years of the experience requirement.
