9 AM - 5 PM

Job Description

Assigns all principal, secondary diagnoses and procedural [LCD- I0-CM codes utilizing the 3M HDM coding system to all Emergency Room encounters for hospital reimbursement.

Assigns Evaluation and Management codes.

Assigns procedural codes on Emergency Room case according to CPT4 coding guidelines.

Abstracts and verify patient's demographics.

Works with and queries the physician in regards to documentation issues that impacts coding

Keeps abreast of all current coding changes and other related topics.

Utilizes the EMR system to facilitate coding.

Utilizes the electronic chart tracking system.

Other and all duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Uses computerized medical record tracking system to log all charts in and out of the department. The system is also used to check charts. Incumbent must be able to retrieve and store medical record folders both in the permanent chart area, and at off-site location in Draper Hall.

Understanding and demonstrated ability to retrieve and replace medical record folders according to the color-coded terminal digit filing system

Understanding and demonstrated ability to use the lntelus - Chartflo 2000 system to send and receive medical record folders, and to check for charts in various locations

Incumbent must be able to investigate the location of charts that are not found in the permanent file area upon initial review

Incumbent must ensure that all medical record information is secured at all times, and confidentiality of the patient information is not compromised.

Duties include standing, bending stooping and stretching for medical record folders Incumbent will be required to carry charts from location to location, and may be required to push charts in large carts.

Minimum Qualifications
1. High School diploma or its educational equivalent; and
2. Completion of a coding, medical record technology or health information technology
program approved by the American Health Information Management Association
(AHIMA); or
3. Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from the
American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); or
4. Two (2) years of satisfactory experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a
recognized hospital or health care organization.
