The role of STARS Youth Recreation Counselor is to gain work experience through assisting regular City employees in delivering high quality services to the Fort Myers community including recreational and educational activities, support services, and the operation of our parks and other facilities. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation:

Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.

Non-Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Duties/Responsibilities

Youth Counselors may be assigned to one or more areas including Group Assignment, General Summer Experience, Front Desk or Lunch / Concessions. Some positions will overlap depending on schedule and previous experience.

* Help set-up, clean-up and take down tables and chairs for the summer camp program.
* Assist the camp counselors in special projects, such as arts & crafts, setting out gym equipment and putting equipment away.
* Assist counselors in daily group activities for campers.
* Assist with campers transitioning including Morning greeting (Parent Drop off / pick up); field trips; room transitions etc.
* Assist with lunch, snack times (set up, break down, and cleanliness of the facility)
* Assist with concessions transactions.
* Provide necessary activity set up including supplies, material, equipment, and/or water.
* Light clerical duties including attendance rolls, answering phones, or providing correct information.
* Light custodian duties
* This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace.
* Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

* Must be 14 - 18 years of age, a student currently enrolled in school and a resident of the City of Fort Myers.

When assigned to working with Youth, must meet the Department of Children and Families (DCF) requirements and inspections.
