Thomas College is accepting applications for a Head of Building Maintenance Trades. This is a hands-on position. The candidate will lead and/or mentor Physical Plant's Maintenance and Utility personnel. He/She will also supervise the custodial operations in the absence of the Physical Plant Director or Custodial Lead. The candidate will perform general trades duties (hands-on) on a daily basis.

The essential job functions of the position is independent evaluation of maintenance problems to determine appropriate corrective action. He/She will manage the entire spectrum of equipment maintenance to include PM, diagnostics, parts procurement, and trade specific repairs. The candidate will work closely with the Director of Physical Plant with assisting with the development of budgets, policies, as well as long-term and short-term planning. Assist with employee performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and assist with training of new employees. Assign staff to work special events and overtime as needed. Operate snowplow, snow blower, hand shovel, and power hand tools. Operate tractor, lawn mowers, and garden equipment.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and fitness for duty test. An acceptable driving record is required. A minimum of three years' experience in the aforementioned responsibilities, good to superior references in that field and a HS diploma or GED is required. One Master level trade license are preferred. Examples of trade's licenses are, but not limited to Oil Burner, Natural Gas/Propane, Plumbing, Refrigeration, and Electrical. Additionally, candidate should be able to provide solid documentation of hands-on experience in automotive, rough and finish carpentry, painting, plumbing HVAC, lock-smithing, or millwright skill. Trade skills at a mid-grade professional level are required. Supervisory experience preferred. Must have ability to adapt to adverse weather conditions and situations. Tolerates work related stress effectively and maintains self-control/professionalism. A team player with a positive attitude is a must.
