Summary:

Provide technical support in the design of treatment facility, the selection of treatment devices, and the development of treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy; implement and monitor the technical processes for patient imaging, planning, quality assurance, delivery, and assessment; develop and maintain established policies, procedures, objectives, quality measurement, and safety; perform clinical research as required.

Work Performed

* Perform calibration and QA for treatment machines and other supporting equipment/services.
* Perform IMRT/VMAT, SRS/SBRT, and 3-D conformal treatment planning and perform patient-specific QA.
* Perform treatment planning and QAs for brachytherapy and other treatment procedures.
* Consult physicians for the optimization of treatment planning. Work and consult with other physics, physician, dosimetry, therapist, and administrative staff in the implementation of new QA and treatment procedures and protocols. Provide support for institutional and national clinical trials.
* Participate in chart checking, chart rounds, as well as implementation of electronic medical record.
* Develop and implement QA procedures for all aspects of treatment devices and procedures.
* Assist in radiation safety programs at designated facilities and perform accelerator radiation safety officer duties as assigned.
* Provide support for shielding calculation and AU license applications, etc.
* Participate in all medical physics-related clinical training activities.
* Facilitate and implement physics activities for any new i nitiatives as assigned.
* Participate in the education of physicians, physics residents and medical students, and medical physics graduate students.
* Set up onsite and remote educational/training programs for staff (physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, and therapists) continuing education and teaching patient cases and treatment planning together with physician faculty.
* Provide consultation related to equipment selection, implementation, and quality assurance.
* Develop clinical and technical procedures, and /or standard operating procedures (SOPs) . Implement new technologies and new treatment procedures.
* Perform acceptance testing, commissioning of treatment machines and measurement devices.
* Supervise technical aspects of dosimetrists and technician's activities as required.
* Investigate equipment performance, organize quality control practices, design radiation installations, and implement controls for medical radiation hazards.
* Maintain required electronic medical records, reports and files; collect necessary statistics.
* Assist in State accelerator and radioactive materials inspections.
* Provide support to clinical and academic missions.
* Provide guidance to graduate students and medical physics and physician residents.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Knowledge and experience of using 2D x-ray imaging, CT, MRI, and US and image fusion using both rigid and deformable techniques.
* Knowledge and experience of 4D imaging, motion management techniques and their applications in treatment planning and delivery
* Knowledge and practical applications of using radiation biology and protection Knowledge and experience of using major treatment planning systems and patient information systems for all kinds of treatment planning
* Knowledge and experience of performing all aspects of therapy physics QAs Knowledge and experience of acceptance testing and commissioning for treatment machines and measurement devices Experience in supervising/teaching trainees
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of software development is preferred Research and publication experience is a plus

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Minimum of Master'sdegree from a CAMPEP (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Program, Inc.) certified medical physics program OR PhD degree in Physics, Engineering, Biosciences, Radiological Sciences, or related field with certification from a CAMPEP certified program for therapeutic medical physics.

Experience

Successful completion of two year clinical residency training in OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE radiation therapy physics froma CAMPEP certified program. Board certification in the field of therapeutic medical physics by American Board of Radiology, or equivalent as defined by American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) within 3 years after completing the residency training Ability to work flexible hours and travel
