SUMMARY: This three-year residency program includes the attainment of the Doctor of Health Professions Education degree. It requires the Residents to apply their growing knowledge and skill in the educational environment. The Residency fulfills the teaching requirements of the DHPE program. The first year of the Residency includes a maximum of three hours of lead classroom time. The second year includes a maximum of eight hours of lead classroom time, and the third year of the Residency includes a maximum of twelve hours of lead classroom time. In addition, the Resident will provide the equivalent of a full-time position by working on other projects and assignments related to health professions education and classroom preparation as assigned by the Director of the Doctor of Health Professions Education program, the Director of the Masters of Nutrition and Human Performance program OR the Director of the Masters of Science in Sports Science and Rehabilitation program, and the Director of Resident and Fellow Education.

Under the supervision of the Director of Health Professions Education, the Director of Resident and Fellow Education, and the Director of the Masters of Nutrition and Human Performance OR the Director of the Masters of Science in Sports Science and Rehabilitation program, the Resident is responsible for directing innovative and engaging learning activities in line with current best practices in both content and pedagogy. Teaching Residents are responsible for facilitating student attainment of stated outcomes and objectives of the course, program, and university. Residents are tasked with supporting and promoting a culture of learning consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the university.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Foster a learning-centered community consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the institution and the college under the direction of the lead faculty
  • Able to assess university, program, and course-level goals and outcomes
  • Show accountability to students, self, and administration with respect to the quality of education
  • Incorporate current evidenced-informed professional information into course presentations
  • Use of innovative and supported pedagogy to reach diverse learners at different levels of proficiency
  • Be prepared and on time, using course time effectively and maintaining professional conduct in and out of the classroom, virtual or otherwise
  • Format and upload the syllabus to the Learning Management System as directed by the lead faculty or Program Director according to the standard Logan University format. All information (course objectives, reading assignments, testing, grading, etc.) contained in the syllabus must be clearly stated and not ambiguous. All administrative and class deadlines must be met
  • Refrain from making pejorative statements regarding the university, faculty, students, or staff personnel in the presence of students or patients
  • Prepare assessments that have sound instructional value with accurately measured and well-defined objectives. Evaluation should not be ambiguous and should appropriately represent the information presented in the course.
  • Provide effective formative and summative feedback on assessments
  • Establish and maintain a classroom/course atmosphere conducive to learning
  • Be comfortable and proficient in online course instruction and design
  • Treat colleagues, staff, and students in a professional manner
  • Understand and employ the process of continuous quality improvement
  • Read, understand, and follow all university policies and procedures
  • Be responsible for other reasonable and related duties as assigned

Must satisfy one of the following:

Must hold a degree in a healthcare-related profession at or above the level assigned to teach (e.g., masters degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related field) and meet all of the applicable admissions requirements for the Doctor of Health Professions Education. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret evidence-based scientific journals. Ability to critically analyze coursework, lesson plans, assignments, and rubrics. May be asked to work with students on an internship, so must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, clients, customers, patients, internal and external coordinators, and the general public. Basic math and science skills are required. Ability to define research problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.

OR

Must hold a degree in exercise science at or above the level assigned to teach (e.g., masters degree in athletic training, exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, or related field) and meet all of the applicable admissions requirements for the Doctor of Health Professions Education. Must hold certification as an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologists (ACSM-EP). Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Basic math skills are required. Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Salary:

Year 1: $40,000; Year 2: $42,500; Year 3: $45,000, plus tuition and fees (except textbooks and supplies) related to the Doctor of Health Professions Education program.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have general knowledge of computers, including word processing and spreadsheets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to type on the computer, operate office equipment and handle books, files, documents, etc. Must be able to talk and hear to answer phones and when assisting others. The employee must occasionally lift objects weighing from 10 30 pounds and possibly up to 50 pounds. Close vision is needed to use the computer. Must have distance vision and depth perception for safety purposes.
