Job Summary:
The Project Coordinator (PC) for Royals RISE (Resilience, Intervention, Support, Education) is part of the Student Life team dedicated to the holistic well-being of all students - a core value in collaborative, co-curricular student support. The PC oversees the EMU SAMHSA (GLS Campus Suicide Prevention Grant Program) campus grant prioritizing response to suicidality and substance misuse/addiction and provides direct clinical counseling services to Eastern Mennonite University enrolled undergraduate and graduate students on the main campus. In crisis situations, the PC is responsible for supporting student assessments and campus intervention. This is a grant-funded position and is currently funded through October 2027, with the possibility of continued funding in 3-year cycles.
Duties/Responsibilities:
* Provide leadership to EMU's Coordinating Committee to coordinate response and prevention efforts on campus to include programs and initiatives of Royals RISE, EMU's initiative to prevent suicide, increase resilience, and prevent substance misuse/addiction.
* Guide the overall vision and direction of the SAMHSA to prevent suicide and addiction on campus.
* Lead strategic plan design process and monitoring completion of strategic plan goals and action steps.
* Coordinate crisis intervention in emergency situations.
* Coordinate case consultation services through CARE Team and other collaboration on campus and with external care partners.
* Attend Care Team, Crisis Management Preparedness Team, and Threat Assessment Team meetings for consultation on personnel, budget, policy and institutional matters.
* Ensure individual and group counseling sessions are provided for personal, interpersonal, and emotional growth of students especially in situations of crisis, high risk or complex cases.
* Maintain and create policies, procedures, and protocols for campus crisis response to include updating curriculum and training materials.
* Organize a core grant team of close stakeholders to move the strategic plan toward completion and provide vision for grant work on campus.
* Organize EMU's Royals RISE student leader teams in order to develop collaborations for programming initiatives with student clubs/orgs, academics, Student Life, and faculty/staff groups.
* Collaborate and develop a schedule across the academic year with departments, faculty, programs, and student groups to offer prevention education in academic and co-curricular spaces.
* Plan, advertise, and facilitate SAMHSA trainings, and track completion of in-person and online training for students, faculty and staff each semester.
* Build strategic partnerships on campus and in the community to achieve grant objectives, meet grant requirements, and improve EMU's institutional response to and prevention of suicidality and addiction.
* Build and maintain relationships with community service providers, including Harrisonburg Rockingham County Community Services Board, Campus Suicide Prevention Center of VA, Sentara PERS Team, Adagio House and the Harrisonburg Police Department.
* Oversee all grant-related initiatives and ensures completion of mandatory minimum requirements related to campus prevention programming, while ensuring all activities are allowable under and in compliance with grant regulations.
* Submit Grant Award Modification and Award Deliverable requests for approval to SAMHSA in the JustGrants reporting system to include leading efforts to apply for continuation funding in Spring 2027.
* Track data for, compiling, and submitting reporting to SAMHSA to include managing budget, tracking expenses, and submitting expenses for approval in adherence with grant financial regulations.
* Attend required SAMHSA trainings, webinars, cohort calls, and technical assistance sessions.
* Deliver public presentations and press releases related to Royals RISE activities.
* Use Titanium software to document confidential material and processing of case files.
* Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
* Knowledge of counseling theories and skilled in therapeutic practice, particularly with college-aged students toward holistic well-being.
* Experience in making clinical assessments, providing therapy, and crisis intervention.
* Administrative skills to create training programs and curriculum, as well as collaborating broadly with counseling service trainees, student life staff, EMU students, and other members of the EMU community.
* Use of cultural competency to establish rapport with a wide variety of persons including students, faculty/staff, administration, and community partners.
* Ability to observe and enforce professional standards including the maintenance of strict confidentiality.
* Ability to comprehend complex information in order to create queries, prepares reports, correspondence, coordinate information both manually and electronically.
* Attention to detail for accurately preparing and maintaining accurate records.
* Ability to set goals, prioritize and organize job tasks and workload in order to meet deadlines, ability to complete work in a timely manner and communicate progress.
* Interpersonal skills for assisting faculty, staff, students, parents and other visitors.
* Ability to use a PC and software such as, Windows, Microsoft Office, and Google.
* Ability to operate commonly used office equipment such as a copy machine, fax, phone, etc.
* Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with a wide variety of constituents.
* Ability to work outside of normal working hours including but not limited to evenings, nights, and weekends.
Education and Experience:
Master's degree in counseling, social work, clinical psychology or related field required. Licensed Professional Counselor (Virginia Licensure) preferred, LPC resident/License Eligible required. Organizational and leadership experience preferred. Training in provision of clinical supervision preferred.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.
