TRUCK FREIGHT DISPATCHER – Non Asset Experience Required

 

SUMMARY

The Dispatcher role is a pivotal operational role in our freight brokerage operations. This position is responsible for negotiating with transportation carriers to secure the best rates and services, and overseeing the coordination of shipment pickups and drop-offs. Integral to this role is working collaboratively with the sales team to meet customer shipping needs and leading the dispatch team in day-to-day operations. The coordinator is also tasked with researching and identifying growth opportunities within the branch and contributing to the training and development of the Carrier Sales team. This role requires strong leadership, negotiation skills, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment. This role requires a highly motivated, ambitious person with excellent creativity to solve last minute problems.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Negotiates with transportation carriers and providers to obtain, set rates and determine services available.

· Working with sales team members to determine their customer's shipping needs

· Identifying and vetting prospective carriers to build a pipeline of service providers (this will be done through cold calling, emails, etc. to hit daily KPIs)

· Coordinating the pickup and drop off of shipments

· Ability to manage and lead a dispatch team on day-to-day operations

· Researches and determines growth opportunities within the branch’s house accounts.

· Works directly with sales team on the receipt and processing of transportation requirement requests.

· Assists in the training of Carrier Sales team members.

· Proactively handles customer shipment routing requests.

· Utilizes various transportation software systems to facilitate material movement, planning, and scheduling.

· Ensures customer expectations are met or exceeded by completing accurate and timely scheduling/dispatching of carriers

· Updating carrier management software to keep clients records accurate

· Advising clients of potential supply chain issues

· Other duties and project work as assigned by manager

 

Education And/or Experience

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED)

· High School diploma.

· 2 years’ experience in logistics, transportation brokerage, or related field.

· Agriculture Experience a Bonus (Non-Asset)

 

Computer Skills

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

· Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications.

· Familiarity with logistics software, customer relationship management software and spreadsheets

 

Language Skills

· English (reading, writing, verbal)

· Spanish (not required, but bonus)

 

Mathematical Skills

· Position requires strong mathematical skills

· Pricing and negotiating skills with numbers

 

Other Skills

· Superior leadership

· Planning and organizing skills.

· Ability to work in a multi-tasked, fast-paced environment.

· Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills to find solutions to issues that arise before, during, and after shipment

· Extensive knowledge of supply chain management

· Well-honed negotiating skills to get the best possible quotes for customers

· Networking skills to build relationships with prospective customers and carriers

· Proven sales skills to obtain new customers and carriers and closing deals

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

· College degree in Logistics or Supply Chain.

· Previous management experience.

· 5+ years’ industry experience.
