Job Description

Serves as a principal member of the infection control committee, responsible for coordinating, implementing, supervising and evaluation of standards of care developed by the committee.

Compiles and analyzes surveillance data for infections in patients and hospital personnel; reports data to state, federal and regulatory agencies.

Compiles and analyzes surveillance data to identify epidemiological variations in levels of disease and to develop appropriate measures for prevention and control.

Develops and participates in in-service education programs for the prevention and control of infection for all healthcare personnel, as well as patients, including providing useful and easily understood educational materials.

Collaborates with all disciplines and departments in the healthcare facility to incorporate infection control principles in policy and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for patients and personnel.

Assures reporting of infections or communicable diseases to the appropriate public health authority and to the Infection Control Committee.

Provides first aid or acts as liaison with Medical Staff or the emergency department to provide care for employees who are injured on the job.

Contribute to accident follow-up of injured employees.

Monitors patient care activities to identify methods, techniques, processes, equipment, supplies, or new products which may constitute a risk of originating or transmitting infection and implement best practice strategies to reduce risk.

Develops and revises isolation techniques according to accepted current standards of practice, which provide optimum care to patients with infections.

Assures compliance with Employee Health standards, OSHA Blood borne Pathogen standards, state and federal regulations, and workman's compensation standards.

Conducts pre-employment screenings and maintains health records on employees

Develop NRMC Infection Control Surveillance Plan and evaluate annually.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: Registered Nurse preferred; may consider Licensed Practical Nurse

Experience: Nursing experience preferred

Licenses / Certificates: Must have active RN/LPN licensure in the state of MO. Certification as Infection Control nurse or completion within 2 years of employment.
