JOB SUMMARY

The Program Director of Nursing Programs is directly responsible and accountable for ensuring the fulfillment of educational goals and objectives and ensuring program compliance with the Oregon State Board of Nursing standards as well as maintaining full accreditation through NWCCU. These responsibilities require leadership in both academic and workforce areas and include meeting student retention goals; directing and participating in educational planning; program organization; staffing, training and supervision of both full-time and part-time faculty; evaluating program faculty and student performance; motivating and advising students; developing and maintaining the program budget and generating program reports as needed. The individual that serves as a Director of the Nursing Program is a faculty member who serves as a liaison with the administration of the College, while also performing administrative functions.

ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES

Major Responsibilities:

* Lead the full-time faculty in the division in curriculum development and instructional advancement in the field of nursing.
* Maintain the primary responsibility for scheduling classes within the program.
* Facilitate the development of and assume responsibility for program budget management.
* Assist and encourage full-time and part-time faculty with their professional development.
* Identify and recruit qualified part-time faculty for the program; review credentials for compliance with OSBN and confirm hiring decisions with the Dean of Allied Health and Sciences and the Vice-President of Academic Affairs.
* Participate in the supervision and evaluation of both full-time and part-time faculty in the program.
* Coordinate departmental textbook orders.
* Maintain communication and work cooperatively with clinical instructors and coordinators off-campus instructional sites.
* Teaching will include at least a .20 FTE or teach at least nine (9) credits over an academic year typical faculty teaching load.
* Provide effective high-quality instruction.
* Maintain quality assurance to remain compliant with all required agencies.
* Prepare monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports.
* Recruit clinical sites from numerous facilities.
* Support current simulation technology in nursing.
* Prepare clinical contracts and continually meet requirements for state and national regulations.
* Obtain qualified preceptors at each clinical facility.
* Conduct recruitment meeting as needed and conduct an application process that meets the requirements of the accrediting agency and advisory committee.
* Hold regular department meetings.
* Recruit and maintain members of the program Advisory Committee from the community. The Advisory Committee must meet each term for input and reporting processes.
* Maintain overload hours if required and submit payroll for adjunct faculty.
* Develop the Nursing program schedule and staffing.

Responsible for providing leadership in the full range of professional and college-related activities including student advising, curriculum development, professional growth, departmental and college-wide meetings, committee activity, and community involvement.

The Nurse Administrator must have institutional authority, control, and administrative responsibility for the program, including:

* Leadership within the faculty for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program, including curriculum and instructional delivery.
* Creation and maintenance of a safe environment conducive to teaching and learning, including coordination and support of faculty assignments.
* Liaison with executive administrators and administrative and student service units of the institution.
* Participation in institutional policy and program decisions that affect teaching and learning within the nursing program, prerequisite, or support courses.
* Participation in preparation of the budget.
* Administration of the approved budget.
* Facilitation of faculty member orientation and professional development.
* Participation in faculty member performance reviews and policies.
* Recommendation for faculty member appointment, promotion, tenure and retention; and,
* Liaison with the Board related to the program's continuing compliance with OAR 851- 021.
* The Nurse Administrator must have sufficient time provided for carrying out administrative responsibilities. Instructional responsibilities and responsibilities for administration of other programs must be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE

* Faculty Organization:
* The nursing faculty shall participate through faculty meetings or other methods in developing, implementing and evaluating the program and curriculum and other responsibilities of the faculty.
* Minutes of faculty and committee meetings, including actions taken, shall be recorded and available for reference.
* Faculty participation in decisions related to developing, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum, and to establishing or modifying nursing program policies shall be documented.

* Frequently moving from stationary sitting positions to standing and walking.

Qualifications

The Nurse Administrator must:

* Hold at least a master's degree in nursing with documentation of preparation and experience in curriculum and teaching in an academic nursing program. In addition, for baccalaureate degree nursing programs, the Nurse Administrator must hold an earned doctorate degree; and,
* Have the equivalent of a minimum of five years of full-time nursing experience to include:
* A minimum of two years must be in patient care at the registered nurse level; and,
* A minimum of three of these years must be in a Nurse Educator or administrative position in an academic nursing education program.



LICENSURE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Current Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license.
* Master's degree in nursing required.
* The nurse administrator shall:
* Hold at least a master's degree in nursing with documentation of preparation and/or experience in curriculum and teaching. In addition, for baccalaureate degree nursing programs, the nurse administrator shall hold an earned doctorate degree.
* Have at least five years of nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a nurse educator or administrative position in a nursing education program.



At least five (5) years nursing experience, of which three (3) years shall have been in a nurse educator or administrative position in a nursing education program is required.Experience with in-service education or classroom and clinical instruction and a broad clinical base including long-term care is preferred.
