Job Description

At Virginia Tech, we are at the forefront of innovative research in the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for applications relating to health outcomes and cognitive neuroscience. Across several colleges, researchers are conducting brain imaging studies to understand development, aging, attention, memory, and more. This position would reside in the Department of Psychology in the College of Science, reporting to the Department Chair.

As an MR Research Technologist specializing in scan operation, you will play a crucial role in the success of our research projects. You will be responsible for assisting researchers as needed, performing basic equipment maintenance, coordinating service calls for advanced maintenance, organizing and maintaining materials and consumables, independently operating MRI scanners, monitoring the quality of acquired images, and maintaining protocols for appropriate use of shared equipment and research space. You will develop and implement a training sequence for new researchers using the scanner, including scan procedures and safety protocols. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with researchers to optimize scan protocols and troubleshoot technical issues.

Required Qualifications
• BA or MA degree in a relevant field (e.g., biomedical engineering, radiology, physics, neuroscience).
• Experience operating MRI scanners and scanning human research participants.
• Strong technical skills and proficiency in image acquisition techniques.
• Experience in the management of computer systems and data transfer.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to research and maintenance protocols.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Pulse Sequence Programming on the Siemens Platform (IDEA) and C++.
• Experience in image reconstruction.
• Experience with data transfer to high performance computing systems and server management.
