Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Manager
This position will lead the environmental, health, and safety (EHS) program, including Continuous Improvement, to prevent injuries and work-related health conditions and ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. This position will develop, plan, direct, and implement programs, risk mitigation, continuous improvement, and managing workers' compensation and the return to work program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a proactive safety, health and environmental training program to include general safety awareness, function-specific requirements and new hire, contractor and visitor training. Plan and deliver training to managers and employees as needed.
- Ensure all processes, procedures and recordkeeping meet required local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules and regulations.
- Assess the impact of safety, health and environmental laws and regulations as they affect the company's operations and track new regulations as they develop. Provide expert guidance to formulate and implement policies, procedures, programs and goals to ensure compliance and systems to effectively lead the plants in achieving these goals.
- Advise senior management on the compliance status, costs, and technical improvements needed to achieve compliance.
- Facilitate ongoing safety inspections and hazard safety analysis for all production facilities to identify safety and health risks and compliance exposures. Develop strategies to reduce or eliminate these risks and exposures, coordinate and direct plant efforts to ensure the implementation of these processes and programs, follow-up to ensure measures have been implemented and monitor effectiveness.
- Build and maintain strong communication channels with all levels of operating management, interacting with all functional departments, as well as the hourly workforce. Provide information and communication materials to locations to assist with training, safety meetings, and initiatives.
- Collaborate with Human Resources on Workers' Compensation.
- Coordinate the investigations of all incidents and injuries with site management, assist with management of injuries, illnesses and noncompliance incidents, prepare detailed written reports and propose/track completion of countermeasures to determine root cause and minimize recurrence.
- Establish systems to ensure all incidents are reported as required. Prepare and maintain required documentation of incident reports for use as required by company personnel and outside agencies. Prepare and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Mentor and direct the plant safety committees and formal Safety Committee.
- Define, obtain, and coordinate necessary EHS reports, permits, communications and monthly safety reports all facilities.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, lead emergency response efforts, plan and execute drills, and conduct associated training.
- Develop and maintain all safety programs.
- Manage Hearing conservation program including Audiogram scheduling and STS record keeping and noise monitoring.
- Create, review and train lock-out tag-out procedures for company assets. Assure company meets OSHA, and other applicable lock-out tag out standards.
- Fill in for Production Shift Managers as required and/or requested.
- Develop and implement environmental control activities to ensure compliance for air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permitting. Develop and implement methods and procedures to reduce or eliminate the harmful effects of manufacturing and production functions on the environment.
- Contribute to FFI's reporting framework by using spreadsheets, dashboards and other reporting tools.
- Work collaboratively with FFI contacts on environmental metrics and initiatives.
- Qualify all personnel involved in water sampling and testing, maintaining environmental abatement equipment, emergency procedures, and handling of hazardous materials and wastes.
Education: Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Desired certification as a Safety Management Specialist (SMS) by BCSP.
Experience: Experience in General Industry & a manufacturing environment. Must have a working knowledge of safety programs, OSHA compliance requirements, and Workers' Compensation.

RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports to the Director of Operations, with matrix responsibilities to all departments.
- Works closely with facilities, operations, training & development, and human resources.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, stretch, stoop, bend, use hands and fingers and climb stairs. This job requires the employee to be able to read, write and communicate orally in English. The employee must be able to hear and have color vision. May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to and including 25 pounds.

Work environment is typical of a manufacturing facility; may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.
