Associate Director of Nursing

Job Purpose:
- The Associate Director of Nursing (ADON) is a key member of the nursing leadership team.
- The ADON is responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practice ensuring that high quality care is provided to the residents. The ADON serves as second in command to the DON, representing the DON as required and assuming the role in the DON’s absence.
- Oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the nursing department, including staffing, scheduling, and resident care.
- Leads the Nursing department’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
- Develops and implements nursing care plans, policies, and procedures as needed.
- Ensures that nursing staff is qualified and trained, and that they are providing care in accordance with established standards and regulations.
- Conducts performance evaluations of nursing staff and provides feedback and coaching to improve performance. The ADON oversees disciplinary issues.
- Develops, revises and implements nursing policies and procedures as needed.
- Communicates with families, residents, and physicians as needed.
- Monitors the nursing department budget and ensures that resources are used efficiently.
- Collaborates with ancillary departments to provide comprehensive care to residents.
- Represents the nursing department at meetings and conferences as needed.
- Maintains compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations. Participates in State, Federal and local surveys/inspections.
- Collaborates with the scheduler to ensure that the Department has adequate nursing coverage for every shift.
- Audits patient records to ensure that they are accurate and up to date
- Assists the DON in operationalizing strategic visions across the nursing department.
- Anticipates needs of front-line staff, PCCs, and support staff when managing change.
- Schedules rounds and audits resident treatments and medications to ensure residents are receiving proper care.
- Ensures that all nursing services personnel are performing their respective duties.
- Serves as a resource for the staff regarding the resident’s cognitive and functional abilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- A Master of Nursing preferred and a current Connecticut registration/licence as a registered nurse in good standing required.
- Supervisory experience 3-5 years is required.
- Experience of 3-5 years in a long-term care setting is required.
- BCLS certified.
- Strong knowledge of Infection Control/Antibiotic Stewardship practices.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of State and Federal nursing home regulations.
