Assistant Director of Nursing

Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Nursing is the second highest level of position in the nursing department. This position takes on some of the responsibilities of the nursing department as may be delegated. He/she provides assistance in the functioning of the nursing department. In addition, he/she maintains the safety of the residents, patients and staff in order to minimize the risk of infection or spread of bloodborne or airborne pathogens.

This role is eligible for a $5,000 sign on bonus.

We are only accepting candidates with an RN degree at the moment.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
  • Assists and participates in the development, organization and implementation of the philosophy, objectives, policies/procedures, job descriptions and standards of nursing care in accordance with the goals of the center; commitment to the Mission, Vision, Values of the Center;
  • Confers with the Director of Nursing in assessing the quality of nursing care being delivered and recognizes the need for improving or changing nursing practices;
  • Assists with the development, direction, participation, and evaluation of the orientation program for nursing personnel; responsible for orientation of new nursing employees.
  • Makes daily rounds to evaluate resident/patient care, employee performance relative to infection control and nursing practices; assists with educational needs;
  • Remains cognizant of legal aspects of nursing practice as well as government Regulations regarding infection control; demonstrates this in teaching, supervision, and evaluation of resident care.
  • Participates in internal audit of nursing practice and in the plan of correction when deficits are identified; audits the following on a monthly basis.
  • Conducts and retains New Hire physicals and New Hire medical records.
  • Assistance with scheduling when needed.
  • Assist with the education of staff during In-Services and General Orientation.
  • Experience with Point Click Care (PCC) preferred.
  • Infection Control: reviews labs, reviews care plans and checks equipment for isolation;
  • Charts and Documentation: review for all updated assessments, checks for missing signatures, reviews 12a-8a supervisor’s audits of medication room, review BM book;
  • Casper Report: reviews for properly dated and adequate care plans on triggers and alerts Unit Managers to triggers;
  • Acuities: records monthly acuities for all four units;
  • Follows all CMS and DOH guidelines with regard to Infection Control.
  • Contributing to development of policies, procedures and a training curriculum of best practice.
  • Maintains Employee health files.
  • Conducts all in-house vaccinations and testing for COVID and PPD.
  • Participates in the Q.I. program of the nursing center;
  • Conducts In-Service training for clinical areas for Infection Control.
  • Assists with evaluation of employee performance and assesses need for progressive disciplinary action; participates in employee conferences;
  • Concerns his/herself with the safety of all Center residents/patients in order to minimize the potential for fire and accidents. Also, ensures that the Center adheres to the legal, safety, health, fire and sanitation codes by being familiar with his/her role in carrying out the center’s fire, safety and disaster plans and by being familiar with current MSDS;
  • Assists with daily scheduling to ensure adequate and safe staffing necessary to deliver nursing services; keeps within predetermined par level staffing ratios;
  • Acts as on-call nursing clinical resource person, as scheduled;
  • Compiles end-of-month reports to be submitted concerning hospital transfers and infection control;
  • Conducts infection control and safety rounds;
  • Acts as a liaison for residents, patients, families, visitors and staff to resolve concerns and issues, always with the goal of customer satisfaction;
  • Puts Customer service First: Ensures that residents/patients and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights;
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Educational Requirements:
  • A graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current registered nurse licensure by the State Board of Nursing.
