Job Title: Lead Custodian
$14.00/ hour
Shift: Part Time 4PM - 10PM

I. BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the general direction of a department or facility manager, performs supervisory work in the cleaning and maintenance of a municipal or commercial building, has immediate custodial/janitorial responsibility for a large building or supervision over a number of smaller buildings or schools, supervise, directs, and participates in the work of subordinate custodial/janitorial personnel; does related work as required.
 
II. RELATIONSHIPS:
A. Reports to Custodial Manager.
B. Maintains relationships with other staff members, working closest with other custodial maintenance workers.
C. Maintains professional relationships, as appropriate, with all building tenants.
 
III. RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Assists in development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures and standards of work. 
  • Provides leadership and guidance to departmental personnel. 
  • Maintains a current inventory of supplies and equipment. 
  • Maintains proficiency in all techniques and equipment used by the custodians. 
  • Ensures that quality standards are met, by inspecting completed work. 
  • Makes recommendations to the manager for changes in supplies, equipment or procedures to improve safety or to reduce costs. 
  • Maintains good working relationships with other departments. 
  • On an on-going basis, provides appropriate technical training to all custodial/janitorial staff. 
  • Investigates, documents and reports all unusual occurrences to the Manager. Completes Incident Reports as needed. 
  • Ensures all equipment is tested regularly and is in good working order. Reports needed maintenance to Manager. 
  • Schedules personnel for proper coverage of custodial services. 
  • Conducts orientation and ongoing training for departmental personnel. 
  • Provides regularly scheduled services to departmental personnel. 
  • Maintains records of orientation and service training programs. 
  • Ensures that Custodial Areas and Closets are kept in organized fashion and that MSDS books are updated. 
  • Maintains specific safety precautions including: No small or sharp objects or tools that may injure staff, visitors or tenants will be left out. Ensure that cleaning carts are not left unattended. Custodial closets will remain locked at all times. Keep hallways and pathways clear of debris, cleaning equipment and tools.
