MCS is hiring for a Chief Accounting Officer with a deep expertise in accounting principles, a meticulous attention to detail, and a proven ability to manage complex financial operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards in Tampa, FL. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits.


The Chief Accounting Officer is responsible for overseeing the accounting department, ensuring the integrity of the company’s financial data, and driving process improvements. This role is hands-on, requiring the ability to perform General Ledger (G/L) and reconciliation tasks as needed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, advanced IT skills, and a leadership style that motivates and manages a high-performing team. It is important that candidates keep abreast of industry trends and developments, as well as applicable Government regulations.


Typical duties include:
  1. Oversight of all aspects of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
  2. Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  3. Perform General Ledger (G/L) entries and reconciliations as needed, particularly during peak periods or complex transactions.
  4. Apply deep knowledge of construction accounting practices, including job costing, percentage of completion accounting, and contract management.
  5. Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate job costing and financial reporting.
  6. Design and implement efficient accounting processes and controls that enhance accuracy and reduce redundancy.
  7. Identify opportunities for process automation and system improvements to streamline operations.
  8. Leverage advanced IT skills to write reports, configure ERP systems, and ensure that the accounting software meets the company’s needs.
  9. Work closely with the IT department to optimize the integration of accounting systems with other business functions.
  10. Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  11. Set clear goals and expectations for the team, providing regular feedback and coaching to ensure optimal performance.

Required:Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Related Field, Master’s in Accounting Preferred

Certification Requirements:

CPA (Desired)

Experience Requirements:
  1. A minimum of 10 years of experience managing an accounting department, preferably within the construction industry.
  2. Deep understanding of construction accounting, including job costing, WIP (Work In Progress) reporting, and percentage of completion methods.
  3. Strong IT skills, with experience in report writing, ERP configuration, and accounting software management.
  4. Hands-on experience in G/L and reconciliation processes.
  5. Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
  6. Excellent process design and efficiency skills, with a focus on job design and workflow optimization.
