Because you belong at Twilio

The Who, What, Where and Why

The Chief of Staff (COS) will be the right hand to the Chief People Officer to help drive forward the strategic direction of the global People team. The COS will oversee People Comms, People PMO and Employee Experience and run point on a wide range of critical activities including strategic planning, operational cadence, metrics, internal communications within and from the People Team, and cross-functional projects. The COS will need to have the presence, judgment, and capability to represent the CPO in any capacity when specific human resources expertise is not required.

Success in the role will result in you being viewed by the team as the key person behind the scenes making sure everything in the People team runs smoothly and efficiently. You’re leveraging your cross-functional relationships to find out what is really happening in the business and working with the CPO to incorporate that into the People Team’s initiatives and strategic direction. You act to build ‘connective tissue’ in communicating needs between the People Team and the business. With your efforts, the People team is executing at a higher level than ever before, and the CPO is focused on the most critical, highest value priorities for the company.

Who?

The CPO is looking for someone who has a proven track record of organizing and directing multiple teams and departments. They need to have the smarts to figure out a new business or area very quickly, no matter how complex. They also should have:

  1. 12 years of experience in a similar field, including 5 years’ executive level experience.
  2. Impeccable managerial and interpersonal skills.
  3. Proven track record of effectively interacting with senior management.
  4. Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments.
  5. Strong analytical skills and adept at using key data and reporting tools.
  6. Effective, versatile and action-oriented with excellent communication skills.
What?

As the Chief of Staff, you will live the Twilio Magic values:

BE AN OWNER:

Facilitate, in partnership with the CPO, the development, coordination and communication of the People team’s short and long-term business strategies. Develop a good understanding of current team issues, within the People function and within the PLT, and be able to provide timely advice to the CPO.

EMPOWER OTHERS:

Directly hire, develop and retain strong talent across your team aligned with the growing business needs. Regularly and proactively partner with key stakeholders within FP&A, Legal, Biz Ops, other COS’s, Internal Comms, and various other teams at Twilio to assist in addressing issues, building plans and delivering programs. Work closely with the CPO on continuous efforts to elevate the People brand across the company and promote team key initiatives, innovations, and messages in the business community.

WRITE IT DOWN:

Oversee the global People operating budget in close partnership with our Finance partners. Set, direct and draft the quarterly business/priority review processes; continue to drive process improvements to help us scale. Prepare materials for executive team and Board of Director updates as needed. Prepare key metrics and operational barometers to effectively monitor the health of the global team and the company.

BE BOLD:

Compile and analyze data to provide insight and recommendations to improve the organization’s effectiveness. Organize and coordinate the execution of strategic initiatives, delivery of new programs, effective decision making, and resolution of issues. Manage and coordinate high value, cross-functional initiatives and projects. Drive research, strategy, ownership and/or execution in support of assigned special programs/projects. Work with the CPO and the People Leadership Team (PLT) to establish annual strategic priorities, plus quarterly priorities and Long Range Plans. Work with key cross-functional stakeholders to ensure strong interlock between the People team’s business strategies and the rest of the business.

NO SHENANIGANS:
