Job Description

The Deputy Chief of Staff serves as a key member of the Senate Democrats' leadership team, providing strategic guidance and support to caucus leadership and staff. This dynamic role requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in policy development and analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist caucus leadership in management of the caucus, addressing specific members' needs, answering questions, troubleshooting issues, and offering organizational and administrative support.
  • Help manage a 14-person team, providing guidance and oversight of department work plans for policy, communications, outreach, and the executive team.
  • Assist in creating consistent lines of communication with the House and Governor's legislative staff and frequently interface with stakeholders regarding priority legislation.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience navigating the political or legislative landscape of Colorado.
  • At least 2 years of experience supervising staff.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in successfully managing multiple projects, with competing deadlines and priorities, to completion.
  • Strong background in policy development and analysis.
  • Familiarity with principles of political messaging.
  • Proven self-starter who shows strong initiative, works independently, and sets high standards for individual and team performance.
  • Exceptional 'people skills' with an ability to work effectively with a variety of people and organizations.
Benefits

Compensation is commensurate with experience and within the range of $85,000-100,000. We provide a competitive benefits package, including health and dental insurance covered mostly by the employer, life insurance covered by the employer, your choice of a Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution PERA retirement plan, 10 paid sick days, 12 PTO days, 10 state/federal holidays, a flex schedule during the legislative interim, and a free parking space.
