Small Business Advisor


Capital Area Workforce Development (CAWD) is seeking a Small Business Advisor to join our Pathway to Entrepreneurship (PTE) program and empower aspiring entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities. We need a business professional with experience starting a business (or businesses) who can coach entrepreneurs on the appropriate next steps to take as they develop their businesses. 


About the Pathway to Entrepreneurship Program:

PTE is a unique program designed to bridge the gap in resources faced by entrepreneurs from Minority Groups, Women, Individuals with Disabilities, Veterans, Justice-Involved Populations, and Vulnerable Communities in Wake County. We provide the tools, connections, and support to turn business ideas into thriving realities. Through one-on-one coaching, workshops, and networking opportunities, PTE equips entrepreneurs with the skills to:


  • Ideate: Develop a strong foundation for their business concept.
  • Plan: Create a comprehensive business plan to guide their success.
  • Launch: Navigate the start-up process with confidence.
  • Grow: Achieve financial sustainability and long-term growth.


The Role:

As a Small Business Advisor, you will play a vital role in supporting our program's expansion. You will work directly with a diverse group of entrepreneurs, providing them with the guidance and expertise they need to launch and grow their businesses. Your responsibilities will include:


  • Conducting one-on-one coaching sessions to address client needs and challenges.
  • Performing public outreach to increase program participation
  • Hosting information sessions about the program
  • Coordinating connections between clients and internal and external partners for resources, mentoring, funding opportunities, etc.
  • Scheduling and organizing meetings and events
  • Creating reports and keeping records updated
  • Ensuring project deadlines are met


Qualifications:

  • Must be familiar with existing entrepreneurial resources in Raleigh-Durham Area
  • Proven experience as a business owner, advisor, or relevant position
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and a variety of industries
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Pays close attention to detail with the ability to plan ahead and adapt to changes
  • Strong interpersonal skills and verbal communication
  • Excellent writing skills


THIS IS A CONTRACT POSITION that will start at up to 20 hours a week but has the potential to expand to up to 40 hours a week to meet the increasing demands of a growing program.
