Human Resource Benefits Administrator – CA (San Diego or San Francisco)

The Position:

We are looking for an experienced HR/Benefits Administrator to join our team. This role offers a remote work model. *Remote position, however, must live within driving distance to the local (San Diego or San Francisco) office as occasional onsite work is required.*


Must be able to lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources/Benefits department including administration of payroll, benefits, employee relations, performance, and ensuring compliance with Firm policies and practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the recruiting team to execute the Firm's human resource and talent strategy as it relates to current and future talent needs; collaborate with Managing Partner to resolve employee relations issues
  • Provide support and guidance to staff and management when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as managing the FMLA process, providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations
  • Serve as a liaison between the Firm, brokers, and external benefit vendors, which may include health care, disability, and retirement plan providers; execute annual benefit open enrollment, communicate enrollment changes to insurance companies and to accounting for employee payroll deductions
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation for all new employees
  • Develop, recommend and implement personnel policies and procedures; Work with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for open positions
  • Analyze trends in compensation and benefits
  • Coordinate the employee separation process
  • Manage the performance review process, including rewriting job descriptions as needed
  • Develop support staff learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance; advise Firm management on potential impact and needed actions
  • Demonstrate a high level of ethical conduct and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive personnel information


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA regulations
  • Knowledge and experience of 401K Administration
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently remote
  • Analytical thinking with the ability to anticipate problems and provide solutions
  • Highly organized candidate with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication, professional phone/email and chat etiquette
  • Ethical candidate with high integrity
  • Expert knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • HR management within a Law Firm preferred

The anticipated compensation for this role falls between $90,000 and $100,000 annually. While we expect to offer a salary within this range, the final figure will be determined based on several factors, including the selected candidate's expertise and background.
